Asus P4C800-E USB failure after updating windows

hey everyone,

I have a asus P4c800-E that's confusing me alot.

whenever I attatch a USB device, to either version, winXP locks up with no reported errors. And this only happens after i totally update winXP to current SP2 etc etc.

Prior to updating windows after a fresh reinstall, when ever i attatch a USB device, windows gives me an error stating the the USB device has failed and windows does not recognize it.

all drivers are current also.

anyone have any issues similar, or any recomendations on what to be looking at? Seems more like a hardware issue to me, but can't quite figure it out.

Are you trying to install any USB drivers (as in drivers for the USB controller)? From what I've heard, if you do that with SP2, you're inviting trouble.
