They're close to two grand. And there were close to two grand even before the ram crysis. The other AIB cards are hundreds of dollars cheaper. You could almost buy two 5080 FE's for the price of one Astral 5080.

What is the rationale for people buying these cards?

You are not getting a 5090 FE at this point for $2k.

The 12v-2x6 per pin sensing is a plus, and the card is well built and some people like the style. To each his own.

You aren't getting two 5080FE cards for that money now ;). They're paying a little more than other actually available cards for the astral. Perhaps they like the features and aesthetics, or the brand.

They were on NV marketplace earlier this week for MSRP, need to be on discord and act fast though.
I checked BestBuy like thirty times a day for two weeks last month. One day, I woke up, checked my phone, 5080 FE was there, and I ordered it. Could've ordered a 5090 FE, but chose not to. Hotstock's notification was about 15 minutes late. Took longer for the 5090fe to sell out than the 5080fe interestingly enough.

I'm talking about both, there was a sizeable drop earlier last week for both FE cards, queue for 90 was doable but long, 80 wasn't hard at all. I didn't end up buying because not reselling atm.

Tons of people nabbed MSRP 5090 and 5080 last week.
