Astro Bot (PS5)

Yeah, surprised there wasn't one made either.

I'm looking forward to it. It's basically the last PS exclusive I've looked forward to since Horizon FW. I've mostly been playing Switch lately due to traveling.

If this game had gotten PSVR2 support, I would have prolly picked it up just for this. It's amazing how Sony committed to developing and selling that hardware, and then didn't commit to developing enough killer apps for it.

There've updated Astros Playroom (the PS5 pack in game) with hidden bots and corresponding trophies in anticipation of this game at well. Not sure if getting them adds anything to this game though.

I love the original/demo version, so I'll probably snatch this up soon. Whenever I play newer platformers on the Switch, I can't help but think of this game and what would be possible if they had real horsepower.

This does look pretty fun actually. It would probably bring out the kid in me.

I fully expected 9/10+ reviews just from the original Playroom demo alone. All they had to do was expand on that demo and it was a given and that's what it seems they did. Harder said than done of course, but Team Asobi clearly has the talent for it.

Got it pre-loaded and ready to play when I get home from work tomorrow. Tempted to skip the gym after work for it too.

Man, I hope this comes to the pc eventually!
If it does, I think it would certainly have to require the Dual Sense controller with how integrated it is here. Else they would have to dumb down a lot of the gameplay mechanics and the game would lose a lot of its luster and tactile feel as well.

At least as of right now you have to plug the PS5 controller in to get any of those features, too.

this looks somewhat similar to Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Sackboy...both of those came over to PC fine

As odd as it sounds, the original version of Astro Bot is basically the greatest controller demo of all time. It uses the DualSense features constantly and wouldn't be the same game without 'em.
That said, it might be motivation for Sony to offer better support for the DualSense on PC. They've teased it with their new accessories app (which only works with the fancy $200 model) and the PSVR PC app.

What they look and play like couldn't be more different here, and I've played those games on PS5 and PC as well. You literally fly around the map and levels on a dual sense controller, and control it and a lot of other gameplay elements with the gyro controls and haptic triggers.

In fact, the gyro in the controller is a key aspect for a lot of the controls here. And although the controller speaker, mic, touchpad, and haptic triggers aren't truly necessary most of the time, the game is constantly making use of them to enhance the feel of what's happening on screen. But there's also some parts here where they actually are necessary, and they would have to dumb down or completely redo these parts if these analog controls didn't exist.

In pretty much every other game, including first party Sony games (which I think I've played all of them), these are gimmicks. In this game, they're essential to its experience and enhance everything about it.

For a game with such glowing reviews, it has surprisingly uninspired box art

I could totally walk past that without giving it a second thought

And then you look at gameplay and it looks excellent

what about Returnal?...I thought I read that the DualSense features were well implemented

should be a pack in game. it looks like a console feature showcase, and they want it to be the mascot.

About as well implemented as Sackboy and Ratchet, and still not nearly to the extent as it is here.

Yeah, I would definitely expect PS5 bundles with this soon, or at least PS5 Pro bundles with it (which would assume this would be patched to support it better somehow, prolly 4k/120hz support). Would be cool if they included the Astro controller as well. I'm tempted to pick that controller up myself.

With the PS5 Pro inbound, I might actually wait a couple weeks and see if there's a bundle inbound. If so, I could sell my normal PS5 to offset a lot of the cost. I'd love a system/controller combo, although they usually don't launch new systems with bundles like that.

Bought the game yesterday morning and so far it's amazing. Having alot of fun with it, very well made and chill game. Haven't enjoyed a platformer this much since Mario Odyssey.

Even my daughter who's not a huge gamer has asked me to make her a psn profile so she can play it on her own, very excited about this lol.

Got it yesterday and it is fantastic. My son and I keep finding so many cool little details that subtlely add to the experience. Looks and runs great, PS5 controller feels awesome, and the game is just all around fun!

Here's a guide I found to find the hidden bots in Playroom and they will follow you to the main game afterwards. Not sure what that gets you really, but I did it anyways, hah. I assume there will be some minor bonus trinket unlocked with them in the main game though.

So far the main game has been a blast, as expected. I'm in the 2nd galaxy area now and so far have been able to find all bots and puzzle pieces in all the stages without too much of an issue as well. I'm hoping I'll be able to Platinum this game without a guide.

Somehow this, and the original demo completely passed me by. I downloaded the original this morning and played a level, it's pretty damn good. I'm guessing the full game(sequel?) is even better?

It's pretty much more of the same, just more variety in the levels and additional unique abilities to go with them. Which is all they needed to do. Definitely worth buying if you enjoy Playroom at all.

Loving this game so much that I just bought one of the astro bot controllers lol. Honestly I wanted a 3rd one anyways (so my kids can play) and the controller is pretty cool looking, seen that walmart had stock of them again so I had to jump on it.

(No idea if they will be selling these controllers again)

I just platinum'd it. Took maybe 15 hours for me to beat it, but I was trying to get 100% bots and puzzle pieces as I went, which I pretty much did. Then took me another hour or so to get the 12 remaining trophies I was missing.

9/10 game for sure. The only nitpicks I have are its lack of challenge and another galaxy area of levels would be nice to make it a tad longer. I was thinking, they should have definitely did a Little Big Planet level in this, even if it had to replace the Ape Escape one, or any other mascot level besides the Uncharted one that was prolly my favorite. There's just so much overlap in gameplay and aesthetics here with LBP, it would have made for a more impactful throwback IMO. My kids, who grew up with and still occasionally play LBP, would have been over the moon for it at least.

The final shapes challenge level was a proper challenge though. Funny I got 90% through it on my 2nd or 3rd try, then it took me another 20 mins of attempts to get through it. I hope they bring more like that in the DLC.
