Assignment server down? bigadv Linux

Yeah.... Switching 17 of my 19 servers to just SMP is a bit of a pain. Why isn't their assignment server doing this automatically??????

Keith

It may not be all of the bigadv servers that will be down. My linux system spent a few hours trying to get a new bigadv wu and failed. However, it looks like may i be worthy has picked up a few more...

I picked one up about 3 hours ago, on a Linux machine. I figured I'd give it a try before I left the office for the day.

I came back to both 48 core machines and two others waiting for WUs for hours...

It may have been sheer luck, but after sitting idle for hours I shut down 3 bigadv clients and then restarted them. All received a 6901 within a few minutes. :D
I think (but have not checked - GPU Tracker issue) that the timeout between trying to get a unit increases with the number of failures.

I saw that behavior. The second attempt was a minute or two after the first failure, the third was about 5 after the second. It kept climbing until it was about once an hour and I finally made it home to switch to the regular smp client.

ill have to check in the morning, but that explains why my HFM is showing it doing nothing :D ....

One of mine just picked up a 6901 a few minutes ago. The other 4 are still waiting.

Just had to switch 3 Bigadv boxes to SMP for now. Will check the one at home tonight. :(

Folding1 idled for a very long time last night until it finally got another bigadv. If the bigadv servers are going to be down for a few days, I suppose I might as well switch both rigs to regular SMP stuff. My daily production is sure gonna tank though...........

still not sure why its not auto-assigning queries to an smp server.. Its going to have been 24 hours by the time I get a chance to switch it over

Just swapped to -smp only, no big adv stuff, picked up a unit instantly.....guess it will stay like that till -bigadv is back

ugh

would have been nice to have advance warning

I tried earlier to go back to -bigadv and did not get anywhere after several attempts to get a WU.

Looking at foldingforum, there is one bigadv server that is down for software upgrades. The other servers are still up, but do not have much work to hand out due to a shortage of bigadv work that needs to be done right now.
