Asrock poor support

I have the Asrock X670E steel Legend, and it's a nice board, but the support has been terrible. Bios versions that just don't work, and their customer support which gives you copy and paste troubleshooting tips that are useless. Their only answer is to RMA a perfectly good board for another. They don't think out of the box and I find it plain lazy, I went years with Gigabyte boards and never had a issue really with a bios update. Oh well, live and learn.

I’m confused as to what the issue is. If it’s a poor bios that has a bug, report it and roll back. If it’s a perfectly good board then what is the problem? If I’m confused maybe they are too? Can you clarify your situation or add some context?

I have all the same BIOSes for my X670E Taichi. I've flashed 15 of the 25 released since the board was new. What is the actual problem? A lot of Steel Legend users post in the Taichi thread on overclock.net, lots of smart and very familiar with these Asrock boards frequent the thread. Could try asking in there.

The problem is I can't update to the current bios 3.01, on every cold start it does memory training/double boot/memory training again. So yes i went back to 2.10, but I would like to be able to have the ability to upgrade to the newer AMD CPU's when they arrive, 2.10 doesn't allow for that. This isn't the 1st time I've had bios issues with them, it's been pretty much a pain in the ass, but yes I have reported any issues, but they have been of little help.

So you follow all the directions properly and after you flash 3.01 it endlessly reboots after memory training?

stay on 2.10 until you decide to upgrade. then flash it, power off, clear the bios, put in the new cpu and fire it up.

Yes, it will eventually boot into Windows, but it takes a while, when you want to game you don't want to have to sit their for 10min waiting to get into Windows.

My friend has the X670E Carrara with 3.01 and no issues, same CPU as me and similar memory. I think it's something to do with the AGESA, as well as one of the mods at the Asrock forum.

Are you using flashback? I do all my BIOS updates this way on my Asrock X670E board, never had a problem. Planned to flash 3.05 tonight.

Does ASRock have any options for not doing the memory training each reboot? This setting is available for many Asus boards, cuts down on the training time when it’s only done once until the ram is changed.

not all cpus are the same, just like the oc lottery...
have you tried the mem restore mentioned above?

Yes they do, I had it set for not doing training every boot, it still did memory training/double boot/memory training every time from a cold start.
Yes, Memory Context Restore like all AMD boards.
Yes see above

Yes
Now that’s interesting. I’d be curious to know if anyone else with this bios version has the same issue.

So it's not an unusable update/bad board like you claimed, it just forces a long memory training each cold boot due to the setting not working. Hopefully they fix it before the new cpus come out for you. I'd wait and see... definitely don't rma a fine board you were able to revert the bios on already!

Several people have the same issue over at the Asrock forum.

I don't believe I said it's unusable, it work just fine with 2.10, and yes two long memory trainings along with a double boot in between. I see Asrock released 3.04 AS01 with AGESA 1.2.0.0 for the Taichi X670E, but they haven't released it for anything else that I can see, hopefully that fixes my problem.

My other point was this is my second issue with one of their bios updates, twice I reported it, the first time it took their bios labs getting involved to fix the problem after support was pretty much useless, telling me to RMA the board. The second time I reported this issue, they were just arrogant, and gave me copy and paste troubleshooting methods that had nothing to do with the issue at hand, in the end telling me to RMA the board. So I'm a little pissed at them.

Just to add to this I went years with Gigabyte boards and never had a issue with any of their bios updates, both Intel and AMD chipsets.

They actually removed 3.04 beta today and added 3.05 stable. The talk in the OCN thread from earlier points to not much changing, at least nothing major from 3.01.

Yes i see they just released it today for the Carrara, so maybe it'll come to mine soon. I read there was some improvements for the Nvidia 4000 series, I'll have to wait and see. It would suck being stuck on 2.10, it would make the board less desirable if I ever want to sell it.

Unless you are selling soon I doubt it will matter. Also some things like that don’t matter to people who want or need the other features. Almost everything has a flaw or compromise if you research enough. I think you’d be good to go before you decide to sell it. It also may be your combination of hardware, it doesn’t look like it’s effecting everyone from what quick searching I did. Some reports of the issue but also some reporting no issue with that bios.

I’m wondering if my sound blaster or memory itself has anything to do with it.

But it works flawlessly with 2.10, and several other earlier bios versions.

So Asrock finally released 3.06 for the X670E Steel Legend, and it works with no issues. So glad I didn't RMA the board as they suggested, what a colossal waste of time and effort that would of been.

Nice, yeah it sounded like a software issue.

Sorry you had a poor experience through a couple of bios updates. But, I've had 3 Asrock ITX boards since 2020 and love them. An H570 board which I used with an 10700 non-k and then an 11700 non-k. Then I had a Z690 Phantom Gaming with a 12700K. And right now I have a B650-E with a 7800X3D.

I've been recommending and using ASRock boards for the last few years but I think I'm going to go back to MSI. I bought a nice Z790 Nova wifi which is a fairly expensive board and it died in a month, one of the VRMs blew without any overclocking.

I RMA'd it and they sent me a very obviously abused board and a bunch of loose de-soldered chips fell out of the packaging. Board boots but memory is super unstable and the wifi doesn't work. I emailed them to no response, opened a new ticket and they just closed it again with no response. So now I'm just not going to buy any of their products again.

The only AssRock that I have is a Z77 OC Formula. Good board.

Outside of that, I probably wouldn't buy any of their modern boards, though I did consider them a few times.

I just dealt with ASRocks RMA department and have zero qualms using them again. It was a painless process. Contacted them via email on the 1st. Recieved a response the next day saying they would have an associate from the RMA Department contact me within 24hrs. The following day I explained what the issue was, the RMA was approved with return directions included in the response. Sent my dead 6800xt in, got the replacement on the 15th. 2 weeks total isn't the best turnaround but I won't nitpick.
