Well, being the hard headed person that I am, I applied some AS5 to my A64 3200+ and spreaded it all over the top core of the cpu and installed my XP-90. Then I decided to read the instructions and discovered that I only had to apply a small amount in the middle of the cpu and lay the heat sink on top of it without spreading. My question is, should I remove the AS5 that I have alreay applied and use it like its recommended, or should I leave it the way it is??

On a side note: I just got a silencer5 for my 6800GT and the temps were about 78C idle....I removed the silencer and noticed that only about 1/2 of the heatsink was actually touching the core...what can I do to fix this? add more AS5?

suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

I started another similar thread here, and the dot seems to be the way to go. I'd clean it and reapply... but I don't know how big of a temperature difference it'll make.

my preferred technique is to put a tiny glob on the middle of the core, then spead it to all edges with single edge razorblade (as thinly as poss.). i think if you just put a dot in the middle, then applied heatsink you would spread it in a circle...couldn't tell you if it makes a bit of difference, really, just my way of doing it :p

missed that other thread. :)

any suggestions regarding the bad contact on my gpu core?

well, I decided to redo my cpu and getting 39C on idle.

I also reseated my silencer on the 6800GT and getting about 55C idle compared to 78C before. Do these temps look fine to you guys?
