Hello, I was wondering if it would be ok to put a small amount of ArticSilver5 thermal compound on a video card. Say a 7800 GTX with out screwing it up. I was looking into liquid cooling and I was thinking of putting some on there for the extra performence(i.e. OCing) :p

It should help you keep temps down as long as you don't mind voiding your warranty, but if you're WCing, I don't think you mind voiding the warranty :).
 
I did on mine. Dropped idle temps by 1C and load temps by 4C on a PCIe 6600GT with the stock cooler. Not bad for just thermal paste.

Also depends on what kind of compound the manufacturer is using out of the factory and the contact the GPU is making with the cooler to begin with...i've never seen load temp drops on any of my video cards by more then a degree or so...but that's not to rule out the fact that some might.

It's an eVGA brand that came with cheap white gunk for thermal interface material. 10 minutes with needle nose pliers, some rubbing alcohol, and q-tips and I was up and running after performing the surgery. It's an easy mod and might be effective, just don't expect too much of a benefit. ...I did get lucky on mine.

Edit:-: By the way, I am looking into the Koolance Lian Li case for liquid cooling. :cool: They have some hard core equipment for some one like myself I have built, and been rebuilding/upgrading my gaming rig ever sence the GeForce 4 TI 4600 was the hottest thing, and I am finnally getting the "guts" to do Liquid cooling :cool: :) . Ooo Wait... common sence WC = Water Cooling am I right hahah... *I need more coffe*
