new LAA .exe, better multicore support, and a crapload of AI tweaks. [H] should give the game another look over with the 1.07 patch

.02 :p

Agreed. I've been helping out a lot in the community beta testing and the game has really improved a lot since release, and especially in this latest build. Also, Operation Arrowhead is out in 3 days, so give that a look, too.

Does it still take about three steps to do something mundane and simple like picking up some ammo? That's the kind of thing that turned me off in the demo despite me being pretty impressed otherwise.

I have heard that the game is considerably more polished than that demo ever was so I'm on the fence and considering jumping in.

Some Operation Arrowhead. I posted some more in the High-Res screenshot thread.

Never had played Arma/2 but the patches and newest release looked interesting so I picked up Combined Operations. My question is, i have EVERYTHING set on very high, but i swear models and environment looks more washed out than those awesome screenshots of yours...any tips?

1920x1200 on a i5 750 @ ghz 5870.

I disable Post-processing completely. I lose some effects but it appears to me that with the effects enabled I get a much more hazy, washed out look I don't like.

So in the expansion, is not being able to play as the gunner as you pilot as annoying as it would seem? You know, drive, then switch to gunner, then back to driving, then back to gunner again when you reach targets?

That depends upon which vehicle you are in. If you are in an M1 tank you can easily switch through all the positions easily via the action menu. If you are in the Apache you cannot switch between the seats and you will have to rely on the AI gunner.

ill give it a shot, thanks.

No, it is still as awkward to play as it has always been. But you overcome that and get used to it and you will enjoy it.

Not in the same category really. Slower pace, much high level of realism and control complexity. Not a constant run and gun game like the Battlefield series.

it's a bit wonky to get used to the action menu for getting in and out of vehicles and changing weapons but once you get the hang of it you can have fun with it. I just picked it up for $19.99 yesterday and am already thinking about Operation Arrowhead.

Got me a TrackIR 5 coming in today, cant wait to test it out with this.

Overall I didn't like TrackIR with it, made aiming harder, but being able to swivel your head does give much better situational awareness.

Ah, too bad. We could have told you the 1.05 and 1.07 patches radically improved the performance over that crappy demo.

good to know. I mostly was buying it for all the sim racing i do, but figured heck, arma2 also? i give it a whirl.

darn it, you would have been right too because I believe it plays pretty smooth with settings on high with signature PC specs.

for me the 1.05 patch helped *slightly*. overall it still runs like shit on my aging system, which is basically identical to yours.

I run the game on a Q6600 @ 3.2GHz with a single 5870 and it runs quite well with most things maxed and visibility set to between 4 and 5 kilometers. I used to run with two 260 GTXs in SLI and it was OK in the 3 - 4k range. If you only have a 4870 then you will have to dial some stuff back.

Try and run the exe with -cpuCount=4

I gained double fps with this on

Keep your view distance down as well. Unless you are flying you really don't need to have it out very far. I play at VD of 1600 and I am always buttery smooth.
Q6600 @3.5 and 4890.

good tip, I'll try that out.

I'm running my Q6600 at stock speeds, maybe I should look into overclocking it to increase performance.

I'll check my view distance too

does that -cpuCount=4 still have effect on patch 1.07 or Op arrowhead?

I got this when it was released but had some major problems with performance after a few missions. The single player part was just screwed up (find the guy driving around in the car mission if I recall). Does anyone know if the single player campaign has been fixed with any of these patches?

Yes. Check out the release notes that also detail some other settings you can work with for multicore systems.

It says -cpuCount=4 is now default in latest patch so don't think you need to add it to the command line.

[71143] Improved: -cpuCount=4 is now default on computers with more than four logical CPUs to prevent hyperthreading causing performance problems. If you want to use more CPUs, use -cpuCount=N to override this.

My apologies, I did not specify it was the default. However, there are some other options for specifying threads that may be useful.

The game runs like ass on my 6core@3.9Ghz + 5970 @ 870/1250

There must be something wrong
