Hi,

Using this card from around 9-10 months.
Everything was working smooth till 4-5 days ago when my machine start locking up.
It happen every 5-10 min, machine will lockup for a few seconds like 8-9 seconds and then back to normal.

Now while this lockup thing is happening and when i try accessing ARCHTTP, it is unable to get card info (even port 82 showing no page found), but if i restart computer i can access ARCHTTP. I don't see any error message in ARCHTTP event.

Is my card is dying? I don't see any harddisk flagged.
Any help will be appreciated.

Do anyone knows how to do RMA, i don't see any link in ARECA site to do RMA.

BTW i had 5 lockups while writing this message :(.

So now when i try to access RAID drive from my computer it show the folders but when clicked on any folder it is showing Not responding.

My first question will always be do you have a complete backup of your data? Next, to remove your computer from the equation, do you have another machine you can drop this card and drives into to do a quick test if it is the card or the computer (DO NOT change the order of the drives as connected to the card)

Thank you mwroobel, yes i did backup of important folders.

After i removed unplug power cables from hard-drives, system is working fine since yesterday night around 24 hours (Card is still plugged in).
I am puzzled as where could be the problem, card or hard-disks? I have already performed "Check Volume Set" a few times and no error was returned.
I also would like to highlight at times it is also showing "2012-08-29 21:31:48 Ctrl CPU 1.2V Under Voltage" but this problem only arise a few days ago, yesterday when i tried copying a big file out of raid drive card start beeping and when i checked it was showing under voltage, this thing never happen before. i have not removed/add anything in computer since quite sometime.
I have called Areca local distributor, he asked me to bring card and they will send for repair but now with out hard-drives card is working fine so what i should make out of this? All hard-disks are showing no problem so i am also very confused if any harddisk is giving problem but how to test which harddisk?

Well, it is always possible that you have a power problem in your machine, or that the PCIe slot is having an issue. Do you have another available slot that is sufficient (electrical lanes) for this card? What motherboard are you using?

But weird thing is since i have removed hard-disk there is not low voltage message from raid controller (but anyway with or without low voltage message system was still locking up).

ok, did swipe video card to raid controller place.
as soon as plugged the drives, system lock problem started. shutdown my pc, unplugged the harddisk cables and back to normal. (if i don't run stress activity on raid drive it don't lock but as soon as i start coping out stuff it lock the entire pc).
Going to put card on different pc to confirm if not my computer issue.

When the machine was locking up did the card beep at all? I know the linux drivers can reset the card.

The 1222's have a hardware problem. I have RMA'd over 300 of them with areca. After around a year of heavy use they have random lock-ups. The repaird cards have been knock on wood though.

Just to update, already 3 weeks and my card is still in Taiwan. Last week when i called them that i was told 2 week they said they can give me a card on loan  (i don't know why they never gave me card on loan when i gave them my previous card).
Anyway after installing loan card, same problem start appearing. I changed port but same problem.
Today i decided to try card on other pc so i bought 750watt power (my that pc have total 8 drives and was using old power, 300+watt), after installing card with drives everything is running smooth and i have done testing on 500GB data out and so far everything is smooth (on current pc even copying 10MB was jamming the PC).
Now i am very confused what to test next, motherboard or power supply on my other PC? BTW i work from home and my pc is working pc so i cannot install Linux or other OS because my work needs me to have Windows OS for Microsoft development.
Anyone ever came across such issue, without card and drives my computer is working perfect no issues.

Intermittent problems can be very hard to track down, I have seen problems as weird as a motherboard standoff that shorted a trace on a board only after 8pm when the server room got cooler by just a few degrees. Here at least where it seems you have narrowed it down to PSU or MB, always swap the power first. You might want to load up something like speedfan for the hell of it right now (before the PSU swap,) to see power levels if your board supports it.

ok just to update, replaced 500+watt power supply with 750watt power and so far (touch wood) everything is smooth. copied a 200~300MB files and so far so good (previously it was already hanging on a few MB transfer).
I didn't add anything on PC to overload 500watt power and out of the blue it just stop working .
Hopefully that would be the problem.

You don't have to overload a PSU for it to flake out. Putting out just enough most of the time and then flaking for a few ms is enough to turn your machine into something that resembles a haunted house.

@mwroobel, but funny thing is system was working for more than 1 year and no problem.
And all of sudden without changing anything, RAID controller start showing problem and only Areca card, i also have Adaptec but no problem with that.

Stranger things have happened. I've seen SAS cables that were never touched since the day they were installed in a server go bad after a year.

@mwroobel, at least for your case SAS cables didn't work at all right? For my case power supply is only giving problem to areca card and not Adaptec card (both cards are installed in same pc).
In anycase, i have switched power supplies and now 750watt power is in the pc with areca card and 500+ watt power supply in other PC. Both computers are working fine.
