I heard they stopped the free upgrade when it's already installed on the 31st, but said nothing about using a windows 7 key for a fresh install of 10.

Yeah, this. I'm actually planning to go back to 7. Been using 10 for about 18 months now, and it doesn't get any better. Arguably it gets worse with each "creators" update.My best advice is always just avoid Windows 10, period, but some folks just gotta use it I suppose.
If you installed 10 during the "free" upgrade, and are doing a fresh re-install, it should be fine.
IF you want to take a 7 and make it 10 now, or in the future, I thought they stopped the free upgrade.
