Are there any Flexable DVI-VGA Adapters?

I recently bought a BFG 6600GT OC and it has dual DVI, this is good except I only have a CRT that uses VGA and with the DVI Adaptor on the back of the computer it places the computer to far from the wall. I was wondering if there were any Dongle type of adapters that would allow me to place my tower closer to the wall.
Links if possible please.

3 meters! Damn, thats a long cable but it would work for what I want, but it would add to the rats nest behind my desk. I guess if theres nothing better then I will have to get that, maybe when I get my new monitor it will have the removable cord on it like I think it will. I am looking at getting a Sony G500 or possibly a clone, do you know if this cord will work by hooking it up directly to the monitor, I aint sure if it will be male or female on the back of the monitor.

Of course, if we were to apply a few brain cells, we'd realize that the right angle adapter could then have a normal DVI-to-VGA adapter attached to it. The DVI-to-VGA adapter would be pointing straight down, and would allow the tower to be placed closer to the wall. Since the OP mentioned that he already had such an adapter, there would be no additional cost involved.
Of course, that only applies if we are willing to apply a few brain cells. If not, it won't work...

Applying a few more braincells would also tell us that if we did that we would severly restrict the use of any PCI cards in the system. This is the reason why I asked for a flexable dongle type of adapter.

Is there a better word than dongle, I really hate that word :D

First off if the adapter pointed up I wouldn't ever use it, the strain it would put on the port would be incredible and would likely break something!

So, I guess theres several people here that have no braincells!!!
 
HP sends cables with their LCD's that have a VGA connector on one end and a DVI on the other, Im just not sure what orientation each connector is right now.

Look on HP's site.
 
btw.. the right angle connector showed in the pic won't work with a DVI-to-VGA dongle attached to it. It only passes the DVI signal pins (the ones in the grid). What you would want is a DVI-I to DVI-I 90º connector (if they exist) and then your DVI-to-VGA dongle will work. The DVI ports do have analog signals passed alongside the digital ones, just the pin out arrangement for the analog signals is not obvious. They are the four holes around what looks to be a cross-hair on the DVI-I port and one of the corner pins in the grid array. The pinout can be found here, http://www.networktechinc.com/technote.html#dvi .

The only analog pin in the pin grid part of the connector is
Pin 8 - VSync
So if you did use a DVI-I to a DVI-D 'elbow' and then a DVI-to-VGA adaptor, all you might get is a flicker on the screen from pin 8's Vsync signal.

The pinout with both digital and analog signals as part of the standard is why you see video card manufacturers going to DVI-I ports, which gives more flexibilty in terms of connections, but yes involves dongles which are annoying in tight spots.
 
why the use of 2 adapters, i use to have a dvi-to-vga 90 degree adapter at work, then you vga cable to the monitor fits in that, took up maybe 1/2" for the adapter, i may still have it around here

in fact i still have it here at work, just found it

Do not bother with DVI-A cables at all, that way when you do go LCD with a DVI-D, your monitor will still hookup to your DVI-I extension cable.

Double-link cables are required if you ever plan on running a DVI-I device more than 1920x1080i (ie. 1920x1080p is hit and miss on single link) within the very near future (their price can be nasty depending on manufacturer).

With one of these you plug your existing DVI-to-VGA dongles on the end of the extension (it now sits inline between monitor and video card) and you are good to go as if it was the monitor connected to a regular VGA out on the back of the computer.
 
I could not find DVI to VGA 90º all that easily on google. Still looking (it wold be the cheapest option :D)...

Edit: gave up at 00:46EST, could not find anything, sorry :(
