Hi,
i´m trying to setup my folding rig and i wonder if the ForceWare drivers v182.06 are okey for the CUDA stuff, or should i download the CUDA drivers from the CUDA site, i believe v181.20

People at the folding forum are using them without a problem. I'd say go for it. There hasn't really been a performance increase in drivers since the 178's most of the releases just add stability. Currently I'm using the 181.20's but that's only because I have no reason to upgrade to the 182's as the 181's are working fine. All of the nvidia drivers released support CUDA.

well it is said that the v182.06 squeeze a little more framerates from the GTX series so... :)

The v178.24 drivers have been reported by a number of users as the best performing version. Whether this is true or not, I have yet to try them and find out. I am reluctant to reinstall drivers across several machines that might manage to eek out only a few extra PPD. One of my systems is scheduled for an overhaul soon and will probably install them then.

I have 2 8800GTS's running in the same system with the 182.06 drivers, all is good.

9600GT in my system is looking good with this driver update. I'm seeing no losses in switching over. But the 178.24 I think were the best.

I haven't even had anything monitoring my GPU client in months but I've got the Vista64 182.06 drivers running on my Win7 64 install and I haven't had any trouble. This is with an 8800GT. There have been no crashes or problems, I just don't know what kind of PPD they do. As others have said, I doubt they hurt folding performance at all.

If you plan on gaming and folding, no reason not to use the lastest version.
My second box is folding 24/7 with the 178.24s and it's a large enough difference avg PPD not to upgrade.

My main is using the 182.05 since it sees a game once in a blue moon. No problem folding except for the loss in PPD avg.

P.S. I just checked and it's actually folding on the 182.06s  :)

are you saying that you get better PPDs with v178.24??

and well yes the lastest drivers are the v182.08, haven't download them yet :D

My second box is running a MPICH client on the Q9550 along with two 280s.
You will see a boost in PPD avg on your GPU clients using the 178.24s.

P.S. Vista 64 bit. ;)

that core is only used for the 5900 WU's. I rarely get them.
Strange, that's all I've been getting for nearly a week. It's been back-to-back 5900s. You probably have different client settings if you only rarely receive them.

I must have gotten some while at work. I see the v14 core in each GPU's folder, but I've yet to check FahMon and see a 5900 crunching.

I just installed the v178.24 drivers and there's no difference between these and the v177.89 I was using before. If there is a performance advantage, it's only between these drivers and newer versions.

I'm almost sure the performance advantage lies in the WUs that are NOT worth 511 points. I just switched over yesterday and my 511s are still giving me ~2500 ppd, but everything else is pulling closer to 4000. When using any other driver, 511s would give me the same 2500 ppd, but everything else would vary from 2500 up to 3800 ppd.

I can't really say at this point. I don't know when it was the last time I saw a core_11 WU. I kid you not when I say I'm getting nothing but 5900s. At least with core_14 WUs, there's no difference between the v178.24 and v177.89 that I was using prior. I'm hoping to get another kind of WU so that I'll see if there's a difference. I think the advantage is over the v18x.xx drivers.

Lucky I like the 5900 units they go very quickly. I'm still mainly getting the 511's. I can't check though right now we lost power at the site my computers are at. It's coming back on momentarily though.

Yes, I noticed any of the series 180 drivers cost PPD, so I went back to the 178s on my fold only box.
