My mate bought a mountain mods case, which came flat packed.Inside the packaging was 6 flat panels with the holes for fans etc cut into them, and a 5.25" drive bay caddy. It did not come with any 5.25" bay blankers or any pci slot covers. In MY opinion this case was not worth the £250 it cost him.

I am not wanting to start a flame war or put down mm cases,i just dont think there is £250 worth of metal and production costs there.

Please post your opinions on this, but please no flaming or arguments.

I have not owned a MountainMods case but they are the most flexible and customizable case on the planet. At the time he ordered that case it should have prompted him to get all the accessories as far as I am aware. I have been tempted to buy one a few times but the price for what I want ends up being more then $400.

why not cool?

Because DB isn't a moderator, and a thread closed by a moderator probably shouldn't be re-created... But that all depends on if our previously "uncivil" guest re-appears. :/

IMO only 1 metric should be used. Price you are willing to pay. Out of my price range for a case though. Does MM have a direct competitor? Someone needs to start one up. Wouldnt be a bad idea.

It's a great case if you have water cooling set up, IMO.
It's not easy to find cases that can handle multiple Thermochill radiators.

Love my MM. Plenty of space for drives and water cooling accessories. Is it overpriced for most people yes, but I wouldn't think of getting rid of my case.

Well, in a pure materials + labour standpoint, the cases are vastly overpriced... But considering they have no direct or indirect competition, and fill a very distinct niche, their value is derived from their individuality.

Did your friend custom build his? Mine came nicely package and was all intacted. was it worth 350 for me...yes. Plus MM has good service to its customers..if I wanted to customize anything their there.

Don't worry! I'm here! Ready to start hell!

No, but on a more serious note, I'd buy one. The price for quality is high, and that's the way it should be.
I'd probably have more fun taking an [OLD] yy cube case and modding it.

Time is money. Especially when those MM cases are hand made and assembled, you can bet your arse they're gonna be expensive.

I suggested to Ti66er ( he did absolutely nothing incorrect and his post in watercooling was fine) that becasue I felt it was needed to delete his post for other reasons that were not his fault that if he wanted to continue the discussion it was fine with me. It was the responses to Ti66er's post that was the issue. His point/opinion is valid and worthy of discussion as long as the rules are obeyed. Carry on.

Ti66er has me confused. Just for the record (and its a forum rule btw) the BillParrish ID is the only one I have (not counting old dead ones over the last 12 years).

dont get me wrong i like the mountain mod cases and wouldnt mind having one, but i think there to guady with the thumbscrews all over the place holding it together and lack of fans and stuff.

Id much rather get the lian li cube.

Building my own (bigger then ascension size). and material cost, I'd say is over $200 using .063" aluminum sheets. Had to have enough for top, bottem, 4 sides and 2 more top/bottem sheets for sectioning the case. It's around $150 (this is not counting shipping) for 1 sheet of 4'x8' of that aluminum and I needed more then 1 full sheet. Add in hardware, motherboard tray, HDD racks and 5.25" holders. Add in tools to do the work, paint if you paint it, some actual skill and knowledge to build it so you don't just end up with an expensive mess....no, I don't think MM cases are overpriced considering you cannot get a similer case to this without eiter building it from scratch or heavily modding some other $300ish case.

I am sure the actual cost for MM to make one is lower. They get better deals on raw stock, don't make mistakes that needs to be corrected (as much as me) and keep their overhead low. I have access to a metal shop, most people do not. After starting the build, I would say.....I'd of rather paid somone else to do the work. The time and effort I am putting into this alone is worth the price of the MM ascension cases, never mind material cost. You try to build one of these with just a dremel...well..good luck with that. You will end up buying $200 more worth of tools to do the build. But if you like tools and will use it for other things then it is not a bad investment. So by my esimate for what I am making which is bigger then an ascension, it's @$175 for raw stock , @$150 to get some tools, @$30 in hardware, @$75 in paneling because I did not want to bend and cut my own mobo I/O panel or 5.25" panel (some people might have no problems making these, I decided, I may screw up nd end up ruining more $$ in raw stock then if I just bought one already made) and vastly more then all that added up for my time and effort.

I was just waiting for Bill to drop the ban hammer on me . . .lol . . .impersonating a mod . . .thanks but now thanks . . .after I heard how much time Bill had to spend just cleaning up one thread . . .I do not want this job . . .I think I should also go easier on the young lad . . .poor fellow is going to go grey and senile after only a year of the job here . . .but then we can vote for him in the next presidential primaries . . .

Dont understand the thumbscrew and lack of fans part of that. Thumbscrew bc almost everything is detachable and easier to clean/maintain. And there lots of fans in MM cases, mine has 6 120mm and u can have more if you wanted.?

I think his point is you need to buy all the fans,it cost my mate about £60 or £70 for fans for his case.I notice the TJ07 for example, comes with six fans(2 top/2 back/2on hdd cages) which is'nt bad for a £230 case.

I see. Well if your dropping money like 300+ on a case, buying fans is not a problem, least for me. I spent a good 120 bucks on fans for mine and going to buy 2 more 3000rpm KAZEs.

It's worth it if you want it; material cost for sheet aluminum alone is probably over 50% of the price they charge. You'll spend ~$200 on alu. panels for a cube case's sides if you try to make it yourself, then on top of that there is the motherboard tray, material for the 5.25" and 3.5" brackets and the case frame itself. Factor in costs for laser cutting/bending/welding/drilling/etc. They aren't putting out enough volume to lower their costs by mass producing these on a line like Antec would be able to do.

It really comes down to if you want the options the case gives you enough to pay for it; keep in mind that if you get a custom case made you'll use it for a loooong time.

I would say these cases are well worth the money considering you can fit just about anything in them. Not to mention the versatility and function all while still maintaining a nice form. Some of the best mods I've laid eyes on were in Mountain Mods cases.

I would say anything is worth the money if you want it and have the money. Value is determined by each of us individually. A friend of mine said I was nuts for spending $200 on my Lian Li V1000 awhile ago, but it's seen three computers and numerous upgrades since then so I would say it's been well worth it. So like I said, the value of something is subjective.

lol too late, already Grey and senile is coming fast if you guys dont drive me around the bend first :D. I have been eligible to run for President for 20 years, just had better sense than to want the job, actually I would love the job just not the people I would have to compromise with. Benevolent Dictator -now thats the ticket !

Just so I don't break the rules myself - a comment on topic.

It is incredibly expense to have small production runs of anything made and you can't usually make a big run and just warehouse it, the inventory taxes would eat you alive. The MM case is what it is, a low volum, custom, expensive case with a unique design and features and because of that there are some shortcommings as well depending on your point of view. I am a person that goes for max bang for the buck (except for that marriage/kids thing- oops) so I personally would be unlikely to consider one unless the stock market gains 1000 points on Monday and we know what the odds of that are. But thats just me, I have seen some beautiful MM setups, its sweet if it is what you want.

Little pricey but build one yourself and charge youself $25 an hour for all time and labor associated with building it, it might change the prespective. (Now some people have the tools and time to do such a thing and actually enjoy doing it, I am kinda like that, I am not really talking about you/us with that last comment on prespective as I agree the "I did it myself" is invaluable to me/us and a price cannot be put on it. You are allowed to ignore cost of normal business overhead like tools, tool maintenances, advertisment, employees for sales, accounting, etc. office management, lights and heat for a building etc. etc.

However I am at a bit of a loss as to why what I would consider very important parts like bay and slot covers are not included, if that is true.
