so i'm guessing it can only go through the data from phones via usb or bluetooth pan?

Simply put, tegra just isn't ready yet. The hardware is good, but it'll only work if overhauled by the user (user friendly they aren't).
The only viable slates out now are from samsung and archos, and they aren't even in the same category. One is a premium phone tablet and the other is a low cost multimedia tablet.
The archos as been a pleasure to use so far, especially with the connectivity features (galaxy tab can't browse your network as confirmed when I asked some of the owners). This a device that's been designed to run on a home network.

Yeah, I looked at the Slate, but it's not what I'm looking for really. I just want something for casual games on the couch or in the car, web surfing, and checking the email. On the go I want to have all my D&D PDFs and some movies. Nothing major, just some lightweight media consumption. The only requirement I have is that it be capable of tethering/piggybacking off my iPhone's data connection if need be.
