As the title says, anyone have interest in or currently playing Archeage?

I am thinking of playing it and would like some first hand experience.

It looks interesting, but someone told me a while back it was a PVP based game which lost my interest immediately.

I loved some DAoC back in the day, but my vision is getting far too bad from retinopathy to handle fast paced PVP stuff anymore.

Looks pretty cool though, thats for sure.

I want to play it but seems a bit expensive to get it at the moment.

The sandbox elements, mounts, taming of animals, house building, ship sailing, gliding, all look like great fun.

I may bite on one of the Founders packages for Beta access. The Alpha access package is just too steep in my opinion, Beta starts in June I believe.

I've talked to people who have played the game in other countries, and it seems pretty heavily Pay-2-Win. Hopefully Trion won't be as bad with their cash shop, but apparently they have almost no control over the actual development of the game. I'm going to give it a try when it gets out of beta, but I'm not paying for early access.

I watched it being streamed for a while (4-5 days) and frankly it seems like many other Asian MMO's , it looks pretty but it feels lifeless and empty after only a week or so. I know its an early build but it really seems like Aion in many ways and I can just see myself buying and dumping it inside of a month.

I want to play it but it's far too much money for the uncertainty surrounding it. $150 for alpha is nuts. I'm also concerned since Trion won't be creating content and as a player I will have to rely on the Korean dev's. Their market is immensely different than ours in regards to expectations and play styles.

Just gonna have to wait.

I REALLY wanted to give it a try but as others have said, $150 is nuts for an alpha. My fear is that the class system REALLY looks as if it mimics RIFT. This isnt a horrible idea, but I definitely didnt love RIFT.

Im going to keep an eye on it and who knows, maybe Ill be wrong.

I been watching people stream it and it has peaked my interest, but I agree $150 for an alpha is way too much. Plus I thought I read the game is going to be free to play. I dont know what they were thinking with the $150 price tag.

I plan to play when the game is released or in beta. Still deciding if I will buy the game for beta or just get in the f2p

They basically give you $120 worth if in game credit or "cash store money" essentially selling the early access for $30.

Or so they say..

The game indeed will be f2p,having a membership allows you to own land a house a farm etc. A
f2p player will not get this and can only share a farm with a p2p player.

Problem is they haven't specified what you can use the in game credit for.

I really was interested but the price is too steep at this point.

Very true. Some are assuming the same type of stuff that is on the russian servers but really, no one knows atm.

I would have killed for this game to have skill game like UO did. Ive been searching for a more updated version of UO for what seems like a decade now...oo the good ole days...

I've seen this and it looks pretty good. Haven't played an MMORPG for years, so my judgement is probably unreliable. Their asking price of $150 just to test their beta game is just rediculous, though

i decided to bite on the archeum package before its gone. anyone playing? going to make a character soon.

Korean grinder where guilds have to have essentially slave members, supplying them as crafters who can't do anything but provide for the guild to have some fun. Source: Guild info from the major multi-chapter guild I'm in for ESO ;) where a lot went to try archeage.

Aion was fun and my guild members supplied the guild with crafting materials and legendary gear 24/7. Of course I ran it so there was little theft and I was as fair as possible to everyone. I don't think anything could be more of a grinder than Aion was at launch.

That said I doubt I'll be trying Archeage until it is officially released. Just too many games in my backlog. I just want to gank someone from time to time. My current guild may try it at some point.

Doing that just fine in AvA in ESO :D.

I couldn't get the quests to work in that game unfortunately. When it worked I was very happy with ESO. But when I would hit those bugged quest roadblocks I would get so frustrated that it would take me 2 days to get over it because I craved to know what happened. I didn't mind paying the $15 a month for it as I enjoyed paying Blizzard $15 a month for WoW.

I'll probably give ESO another try around the July 4th weekend. That way they can fix the stuff that irritated me. Ideally I can try it again with an open mind and appreciate the fixes that they implement. Hopefully I can enjoy it again at that point.

played it literally from 10am this morning until 5pm this afternoon.

i must say, it is pretty damn fun, and it is not grindy by any means. got to level 17 in a few hours played.

the class combinations are great, 120 total potential combinations. it makes for a very unbalanced pvp experience in some situations, which i thoroughly enjoy. some classes shine at 1v1, some classes need a friend or two to really get the most out of their abilities.

in 1 day i have had more fun than i had in all of the ESO and Wildstar weekend betas combined. only reason i stopped playing this afternoon is due to a headache from the length of the play session.

Has there been any news on when this is supposed to be released yet?

Closed Beta in june is all that has been said.

Is it still 150$ to test it?

Im about 100% sure you've never played this game because even in alpha you are not speaking anywhere near the truth. Maybe your guild mates played the Korean version that killed the game? Trion has already stated they will be tweaking the things they liked about that version and outright dropping the things that didnt. Most importantly the major pay 2 win aspects of the patch.

It will be $50-$100 to preorder the pack to get into the upcoming BETA's.

I went ahead and bit the bullet for the $150 pack. Ive got a feeling Ill be playing this game a long, long time. Im having the most fun Ive had since UO quite frankly.

For those that care. The Alpha server will be up until launch where as the Beta server's will only be open for 3-5 days at a stretch. Theyve stated it will be different times and not always weekends. Beta testing servers will also carry over, so no deleting of your toons until launch. Alpha servers will be down during the 3-5 day betas but will be brought up again after.

i wanted to give it a try until i heard some of the character animations that sounded like it was recordings of strange japanese porn.

Yes, it's in alpha and will be completely translated to english. Most of the sounds/cutscene text in game at the moment are not in English...

Have you been playing yet? I am really considering trying it out

Yep, NA Alpha East Side. Been having a blast, well worth it imo IF you plan to play for an extended period of time and cant wait to play. You are essentially getting a few months of Patron as well as the cash shop money which Ive heard can also be used to buy Patron Status or whatever else they decide to sell in there.

I definitely would wait till Open Beta if you are on the fence though because it could turn out that it isnt the game for you and now youve wasted a TON of money.

I'm afraid I need to give this one a pass. I was excited to give it a try, but after seeing the absolutely abysmal, overpriced, insane monetization scheme, I'll be passing it up. The game had a really great premise, and I have friends who have played the Korean and Russian versions, which sadly report that it is failing... but worst of all I am disappointed in Trion's handling of the whole thing, especially monetization and the plans for going forward.

I read that this game uses tabbed targetting...

It does.

I wish I could disagree with you 100% but really, I cant. Im not a fan of what they did with this whole alpha debacle. It was very intelligent from a marketing stand point because just like the first Darkfall, the more people you tell can't play a game, the more that want to play it and some 14,000 people at this time have said yes to that price point (last numbers I saw).

Do know though, the game itself will be COMPLETELY FREE on launch. The only portion that is being monetized is the "Patron" status and the cash shop.

The Korean version was the #1 game over there until the infamous 1.0 patch which turned a lot of people off of the game. Trion has stated they will not be incorporating that patch into our version and they will only pick certain parts that they feel will work well over here. Trion has done a really good job with Rift imo and Im trusting what they say for now. After all, it's in their best interest to have a game people want to play.

Im personally enjoying the game because of the open world PvP and the sheer massive amount of stuff there is to do. It really seems like a very close comparison to UO imo. It's definitely got its twerks and things I think could be done better but everything from crafting to home/farm ownership, animal breeding, castle/land wars for ownership of the land to naval battles ALL in an open, seamless world really pull me in. Before I found out about archeage I had essentially given up on all MMO's (after FFXIV) this was the first one to interest me.

i'm having a blast. the number of potential class combinations can make for some fun group play and lots of experimenting to figure out what types of playstyle suits you best. the world is pretty big and they have 1 of the continents locked off currently so there will be a lot of land to cover when the game launches. yeah the game is tab targeting and not twitch based but i haven't seen a game do the twitch based gameplay justice yet. ESO combat to me is boring after a few hours, a lot of people may enjoy but i've always been perfectly cool with the old school tab targeting stand in place kind of gameplay. also this game has collision detection which most games lack. it's actually refreshing to not be able to run through every player and NPC in the game. the little things, i guess. same with your mount, dismount and it follows you, jump in the water and it swims, not just automatically disappearing like every other game.

How long have you been a diabetic? I just got diagnosed as type 1 in January, I went and saw a new endocrinologist in March that said I was actually 1.5 (lada)

I bought the founder's pack for the beta for this since my friends and I have been looking for something to play. After the newest pvp season started in WoW we all finally called it quits (more probably a break till the new xpac) from the game after playing since early vanilla. This game looked like a lot of fun to them so I'll give it a whirl.

I'm concerned like the others said about it being a eastern RPG grindfest. I've never played one before but I've heard about them and the last thing I have time/patience for is mindless grinding.

I don't dare to hope that it'll be similar to WoW was in the early days with the very strong sense of server community. Looking back that was my favorite part, you knew everyone on the server at high level one way or another. Don't have that anymore in the slightest, maybe archeage will be like that?

Considering ArcheAge will be F2P at launch "strong sense of community" and F2P...never seen those two in the same sentence before so I wouldn't hold my breath TOO much. Your best bet is to use the beta time to find a solid guild and that will more or less be your community.

In terms of the grind, 1-20 is pretty much a tutorial. I got to 20 within a few hours and it pretty much opens from there. You can continue to do quests, you can grind mobs if you want, you can farm/craft for experience, or PvP. There are some dungeons as well for group play. I wouldn't say the game is grindy because you have a lot of options for earning experience (and quests). To me grinding straight mobs for no reason is the only thing I REALLY consider an "asian grinder". There are some AoE builds that would probably benefit from just mass killing mobs for exp and farming purposes but you are by no means stuck with doing something such as that to level. It doesn't seem like it'll take all that long to hit 50. In the current alpha state there is an entire continent currently unavailable and there's still PLENTY of stuff to do that will get you to max level. Since I have yet to get there, I am unsure about what most people will be doing at that point. Seems like it'll come down to guild raids, territory capturing, PvP related stuff. It's a really fun game so far though, I've been extremely engaged and wanting to play when I'm not able to. I played a lot in CBT and OB with ESO and Wildstar and I gotta say neither games really give me the level of fun I'm getting out of ArcheAge.

So you can level to 50 by farming/crafting? Or is the exp tree for farming seperate from combat?

It's not separate. You gain crafting proficiency and EXP from any crafting you do. So yes, you could farm/craft your way to 50. Everything you can possibly do nets some kind of exp. Slaughtering animals, cutting down trees, mining ore, etc. I just crafted my first set of green armor at 20 and it gave damn near half a level of exp just making the gear.

Necro a little bit. I was in the last beta a couple weeks ago and see that the newest beta starts up here in a couple days.

I enjoyed it quite a bit, definitely reminds me of Ultima Online, I'm very close to jumping on a founders pack of some sort, maybe after this beta I'll see which one I decide on.

I was a little overwhelmed with how much there is to do and I couldn't figure out how to raise a mount or anything, but I also put zero effort into researching or reading up on it, but it sounds fun. I miss growing plants and what not from UO.

Anyone with new thoughts on it now that you've spent more time playing it.. for those of you with Alpha access?

I've been in Alpha since you could buy the founder packs. I really like it, but I'm not going [H]ard because it will be wiped out soon enough.

I love how it's open, maybe not as open as UO, but pretty close. I'm having good fun, but I will say having a good guild takes you really far in this game. EVERYTHING takes time in this game, besides maybe leveling to 50.

How's the housing / farming aspect? Time consuming, or fun?

Also, what are the penalties for death when you're higher up and doing pvp.. can you lose gear or your ship during naval battles?

Can you lose a house or farm to other players?
