Apple Set To Back Blu-ray?

HD DVD will win. It has the word DVD in it people. My grandparents had a hard enough time going to a DVD player.

"What's blue-ray sonnie boy? I'll just go with the fancy DVD player"

I thought this way when I first learned about the format war, but have quickly learned it is nothing even close to that. While many people are doing that, the masses are different this time around and both sides know this.

It is too early in the game to dismiss anything. Speaking too soon will make one look foolish.

Warner to go Blu-Ray only in May 2008, posted in many places.

Game over.

I've got both, so doesn't really matter too much. There are still a lot of titles on HD-DVD that I will gladly pull out of the bargain bin.

Yeah, I've got both formats but I wasn't ready to call a "winner" at all, at least not until the Warner announcement today. I'm still not going to call a winner but it sure as hell is getting tougher and tougher for HD-DVD. If Blu Ray is pushed as de facto next gen burnable storage, then it may push it over the top, we'll see.

Dude its OVER. Warner has the largest library of any studio. Its over. Blu wins.

lol, that was a rumor created on blu-ray.com. They already made public statements saying they were false rumors.

However, Warner has said they were selling 50/50 in terms of Blu-ray and HD DVD shipments. They have also complained about problems on the Blu-ray production lines.

Actually, I just read the news again.. lol wow. They completely contradicted themselves in a week's time period.

Oh well. Good news for Blu-ray and DRM supporters. Bad news for the consumer. =/

Only now that studios are starting to use format based encodes rather than "one encode dumped into both formats" you're going to see a tremendous difference. Shoot Em Up on bluray for example has bitrates higher than HD-DVD specs at.

haha shoot em up sucks.
