Whoa, $150,000 in shoe boxes hidden around your house? Seriously? shoe boxes? This guy was a real genius (bar) criminal mastermind! Pretty funny for those of you that haven't heard about this yet.

"He had over $150,000 stored in shoe boxes," Department of Justice Attorney Michelle Kane said, as she argued with a defense lawyer over the possible terms of Devine's release. Devine had a further $20,000 worth of foreign currency in his possession, she said, arguing that it was possible that the Apple executive might have other hidden sources of cash.

Maybe he was saving up for a Quad core Ipad and didn't trust credit cards? Actually no it's crApple, he was saving up for a 12 year old boy escort to help him firebomb some open sourcing type peoples chickens. fucker.

On Monday, Devine's mother agreed to post the deed to her Maryland house as bond.

Wow! How embarrassing! Your mom has to hand over the deed of her house in order to get you out of jail!

It may take some time for Devine to meet all the conditions of his release. His lawyer said his client might not even be able to move the money into the U.S. because of the complicated logistics of foreign fund transfers.

I am by no means a international banking expert, but I think that if you are the legitimate account holder transferring your money to another bank is not exactly rocket science (i.e. not hard to do at all). Any international banker types here want to confirm/refute his lawyers claim?

Sounds to me like the government is more concerned with confiscating his money than in prosecuting him.

If an Apple exec is taking kickbacks, isn't that an internal problem? Is he being prosecuted for not paying taxes? I don't get it. He's not working for the government.

the .gov of course is interested in getting their hands on the money... same thing happens if you get pulled over and have a certain amount of cash on you...its confiscated for "evidence" even if a crime "hasnt" been committed... apparently having money is probable cause these days... but this guy 'should've' been smarter...

So I have not commited any crimes. My bank is paying me .01% interest on my money market. In January Obama wants 39% of my investments, new capital gains tax. In January Obama wants 55% of the value of my house if I leave it to somebody. If I sell my house he also wants 3.8% sales tax. That is written in the Obama Care Plan, some where in the 2700 pages.

So if I want to withdraw money from my account and put it in my floor safe, who cares, it's my money. OK if I don't have a floor safe how about a shoe box.

Since you are rich enough to have money, you should share your wealth with those poor unfortunate downtrodden souls who have none.

They want all of the money to keep him from taking off as they label him a flight risk. Idea is that they expect him to have a lot of money out there and by taking it from him he wouldn't be able to up and fly away as easily. Problem i see is that normally they take away your pasports and if your too much of a risk just won't release you. In this case by him giving up all of his money isn't that about on par with him admitting he is guilty? That is like an expected bank robber being told before they can be let out on bail they have to give the police all the money they stole from the bank. If you give them the money you are admitting that you stole it.

That is what I was wondering. I'm not sure what exactly the charges against him are. Tax evasion is the only one I can think of. Otherwise as you said, he isn't a government employee so the actual act of taking kickbacks isn't a legal issue.

He is either dumb, leaving all this cash around or he's playing the smartass and that's just a "decoy" stash, hehe
