Apple has denied reports that batteries are behind the rash of exploding iPhone incidents. Did anyone seriously expect the company to admit a problem with its products?

US technology giant Apple on Friday rejected reports that overheating batteries had caused some of its iPhone devices to explode in users' hands, blaming incidents in France on "external pressure".

What else in an iPhone,(or any cell phone for that matter) is capable of exploding if it's not the battery?

Apple doesn't make batteries...

Irrelevant. Just because they dont make the batteries doesn't mean Apple can get away with saying the only thing capable of exploding in the iphone is the battery, but its not the battery causing the explosions.

Apple doesn't make batteries...

They don't make anything really. They don't produce their own CPUs, motherboards, memory, LCDs, etc... They designed it, but they didn't make the individual parts including the battery. However, if it is in your product you are responsible for it!

So if I get drunk and run over a bunch of school children it will be the beer's fault and not my own?

I like that way of thinking...

replace beer with guns and you have the anti guns zealots position, so why not?

personal responsibility is SO last century.

True. But unlike batteries you can't produce a gun that doesn't kill someone when used for illegal and immoral purposes.

Well, I don't expect any company to admit their problems anymore. I think better of companies that do, but I don't ever expect them to.

I expect it more from the companies that do it the least. Why? Because these tend to be the companies that are more than well off in their current market position for their flagship products.

The Frenchman was obviously looking at Porn on his Iphone and then applied external pressure to the screen causing it to explode. That is obviously what Apple meant when they said he applied external pressure to the Iphone since it obviously wasn't the battery that caused his phone to explode.

Do you think anyone or anything has EVER wanted to own up to ANY mistake? That's human nature. To think that this is new phenomenon I believe is not correct. Doging negative consequences is just want people tend to do.

Some do, but the whole they dug for themselves is usually so deep that trying to lie their way out of it would be pointless.

Lol, the French are going to get to the truth of the matter as we all know the French are great investigators.

Just ask people in the R/C hobby industry... lithium batteries NEVER explode... riiiggghhttt.....

Very true, I've never seen such fine "investigatory" ability when it comes to checking out much younger girls and making one of them your bride. :p

There are lots of illegal and immoral purposes besides murder.

Well Lithium batteries don't respond well to ruptured cells and you can find quite a few videos on the web showing this. So I am not surprised they are trying to blame it on “external force” rather then heat. This 'prior shock” and “external force” they mention is throwing your phone even though they don't seem to come out and say it. They aren't going to say it was dropped and damaged the screen and battery causing the battery to explode since that leave them just as liable as heat causing it.

Why aren't the environmentalists all over Apple's ass for exploding iPhones and smokin' laptops?

Imagine how much the Earth has died with all the exploding and smoking parts! :D

...Like Microsoft admits that the xbox360 has a 54% failure rate?

I don't think anyone here in this particular thread has gone out of their way to put Microsoft on a pedestal above Apple in regards to this approach.

If it makes you feel any better, they both are lying scumbags that don't give a damn about their consumer in any regard other than the one that gets the consumer's green into their pockets faster... Add Sony to that list as well, but their lying is damn well near the top of the bullshit-ometer. :p

Also for the sake of debating it further, 360 failures don't have a risk of taking your genitalia with them. ;)

Heat, overcharging, overdischarging, puncturing, shorting.... They are an awesome technology you just have to be careful with them. Go to the R/C groups and look at pictures of burned down houses and burned out cars.
