well, i did it, i gave in. the mini is on ebay and i'm buying a dual 2ghz g5... damn you apple and your apple branded crack :D. anyone else "upgraded" their mini to a g5?

Its tough isnt it.

my Mini would have been on ebay last week, had i not had finals to deal with.

i gave up my mini for a PMG5 Single 1.8, then convinced my brother to get a 20" iMac, then convinced my boss to trash our companies somewhat aged gateway accounting computer for a PMG5 (prolly a dually)

im now looking to get rid of my averatec 12" notebook and get a 12" powerbook  :D

i skipped the mini, got the imac g5 20" and threw extra cash into external drives (hd and dvd) more memory, and a new desk.

i only have a little ibook, but i find the 12" screen isn't big enough for me. so it's either a 17" portable or a powermac, anything less and i'm sure the apple crack habit will only leave me with more regret.

Yeah, I see a dual G5 sometime in my future. Bye bye, money. :(

pass the pipe bro.

good thing I have a Dual G4 to keep me satisfied for the moment. Although with my student discount a Dual G5 has been calling out to me in my sleep

Im currently saving up for a 20'' Cinema that I plan on purchasing through my school. After that I may sell my Mini in favor of a dual g5, or 15'' pb... not sure yet... and thats a long way away money wise :p

I don't know what it is, but I love dually rigs, and apple is tempting me with a system that has performance that REALLY benefits from having dual procs (silly windows boxes :p ). Perhaps a dual core 15" pb would do the job well enough :D

I was going to buy a Mini to get my feet wet in the Mac world but I went ahead and bought a 14" iBook fully decked out.

yup, placed the order today, Dual 2ghz with the 20" cinema display, i'll be adding another 2GB to the stock 512MB myself :D.

damn -esr are you gonna write another post filled with naughty words when you get that! :D

you will REALLY like that machine. My 2003 Dual 1.8 was worth every dime. I cant imagine trying to do anything computing wise without it.

Personally, Apple's charms haven't gotten a hold of me...yet.

I get a kick out of building boxes, and Apple just doesn't give me that.

I get a kick out of overclocking, and Apple just doesn't give me that.

I get a kick out of gaming, and Apple just doesn't give me that.

But dammit, Powerbooks are so freaking sexy! :D I wish I had $2000 to get one right now. (Or at least a credit card with a $2000 limit. I've got $2000 somewhere, I'd just rather not spend it all at once on a laptop.)

Buy the parts from ebay or something such.

Get a G4. They overclock well, and you'll have to solder and shit. [H] enough? :D

What, StarCraft isn't good enough for ya?

I hate you.

:D

Somehow or another Jobs got his 'switch' campaign to run through a rather backwards way it seems.

I'm switching like you guys. Keeping the windows box around for some MS production stuff (Access, .net) and primarily moving over to a mac based platform. In fact, typing on my brand new 12" powerbook......sooooo sexy!

I think instead of switch, they need to use "add" instead.

Tiger just puts another nail in my PC's coffin. I'm gutting it up and putting the parts on ebay tonight. The only game I play is Battlefield 1942/DC and Im not interested in anything else. I can do that on the G5. I'd rather have a 23" display and a 6800 DDR (or at least a 9800XT) in here than all my PC junk.

Time to actually leave the PC behind. Using Windows 2000 on it is getting painful. Like a time warp. XP is barely better.

I know how you feel. Once the Mac mini's are available to a specific location where I can purchase, I'm gonna buy.

Going to upgrade the hard drive to a 40GB 7200RPM 8MB drive and a 1GB RAM stick.

Heh, I just got my mac mini yesterday and think I will get a dual G5 2ghz next week for my main pc.

I hear you on that.. its amazing to me that apple still hasnt made a push to bring more game developers in, in my mind its the final lacking area of their operating system...

..If they did start bringing them in, my pcs would be sold in favor of a g5 tower.

Apple's gonna need more market share before the game developers listen. Why should they expend 25% additional money, time, and effort (just made that number up) to get an additional 2% of sales?

But Apple's market share is increasing. If it keeps going, sooner or later there will be "critical mass" and it will become profitable to develop games on the mac. And some performance issues have to be worked out for high-end games.

I think as long as the games are actually developed with a mac in mind the proformance will be fine, all we see currently are pc ports.

I was kinda suggesting that Apple kinda buck up, and say to a company like Valve, we will commit 10 employees and x number of dollars to you if you develop hl3 to have the same ship date as the pc.

Apple is slowly gathering people to it's ranks. A lot of newspapers are refering to 'cults' attached to the new Tiger OS. I agree. I'm doing a little mix-up in the systems because there needs to be some change.

Windows has barely changed it seems...but when one looks at Mac OSX, there is all kinds of changes. All the while, though, I still use both platforms...keeping the mix-up is good and it keeps no dependency on one supplier.

That's a lot better than the delays after the last Powermac revision.

5 or so days for a BTO system sounds reasonable, especially on one just introduced.

i wasnt implying they should be made instantly. the poor children heartless apple employs to build these machines need breaks too, i agree.

Upgraded to a 17" Powerbook on Friday. Good God this thing is dead sexy.

all started with the ipod...then the ibook, then the ipod shuffle..and in two weeks a new powerbook will join the party.

You know... if one of you wanted to let your mini go relatively cheap I'd be happy to take it off your hands for you.

what he said :) It'll make a very nice addition to the cube, iBook, and 15" G4 iMac, pluse those are at home. My job pays for my addiction... We've got a couple more dually xserves on the way with an xraid MAXED OUT  if only I could convince my boss that a $150 usb memory stick is a good idea...

wow a maxed xraid. That's gonna be a beast.

story says outa macsurfer Apple's market share is going to grow to 4% and that the halo trend is accelerating. :D

Takes pipe, takes a hit. Yep. Hit me too!

Started with iPod --> G4 Powerbook ---> Shuffle --> Mac Mini (although this is my brother's, I converted him) --> Hopefully a G5 by summer.
