After a minor hiccup on Friday, the folks at GamersFirst have finally launched the APB: Reloaded open beta. The game is now free to play so there isn't any reason not to try it out, especially those of us that got hosed after we bought the original game. Maybe we can get another [H] clan going?
 
maybe i'm just blind -- but if they wanted people to download and play for free, maybe they should have a downloads section on their site? I looked twice, up and down and didn't see anything
 
ah I see - it's some jacked up installer that uses bit torrent to download the 8GB - i had to google for it because their main page link is so shitty.

I'll give it a spin -- but if a company wants to get people to use their stuff a simple and working "hey click here to download" option would be nice instead of having to search on my own
 
Only getting 500 KB/s for download speeds, this might take a while.
 
I really don't want to waste the bandwidth like the $50 I did when I bought it. The hackers ruined what gameplay didn't totally sux.
 
Is there a way to install the GamersFirst thing on another drive? Doesn't give an option to select install location and I don't want it on my SSD...
 
We'll see about the hacking and griefing...as of the other day, was still pretty bad...BUT...they are supposedly going to address it.

Where the heck is the download link?!? Their landing page is freaking useless.
 
Ok you need to follow a link on their Twitter feed to get your account made and the client installed. That entire company should walk outside and dick punch themselves into come for making a website and account creation process that are so retarded.

Given how bad the first one was, and the fact they can't even get a download link or even instructions on how to download on their main website, means I have very little faith they will get this game running the way it is supposed to.
 
The difference this time? It's FREE.

It is 2x better than the old game and free now....not saying alot...but it is free.

People that paid for the game and like it should really play the new one so they can at least feel like they are getting sime of what they paid for the first time. AND, you can get your characters back from the first game too.
 
Those screenshots made me almost pee in my pants. I wonder when Gamersfirst would stop blocking people from making designs from copyrighted characters, names, etc. Hopefully, before they do, I'm going to make my own. :)

I maybe wrong but this game sound more like a money sucking game becuase if I unstand it, it more like a few other games so called free 2 play or free to play like (Second Life, Need for Speed World) that not really free to play you have spent real $$$ money for virtual money to get things.

Yup, you're wrong.

The game is free. Playing is free. The stuff you can "buy" in the game, you can earn playing for free.

I have well over a hundred hours in the closed beta and I haven't paid for anything and it hasn't hurt the experience at all.

Damn Steve 100 hours in closed already. Definitely getting back into this if closed beta has drawn you in that much. I never finished my orignal 50 hours back in the day, (although I prolly spent another 50 afking leveling and getting money :D) I really enjoyed this game before it went to shit, so I think its worth another shot. Screenshots look amazing. We should get an [H] clan going, perhap we should get a thread going in the [H] GC sub forum.
 
I played all through RTW beta and live, and current G1 closed and open betas.


1. Cheaters -- there really are not that many. There are some, but it is nowhere near as prevalent as it was in the RTW days. G1 has stated they are actually allowing some cheaters to remain for a period of time as the collect data and metrics on the cheaters to figure out how their tools are working, then banning them. Over 200+ people banned to date.


2. Griefing -- it's part of the game, deal with it. It's open city with people racing around. They removed most of the "ram the dump truck into the non-mission player's car causing them to explode" issues. It's cops vs. robbers -- people are supposed to screw with each other.

3. Economy -- in-game economy is WAY more stable than RTW days. You don't really see "twinks" running around at level 10 with level 100+ gear (mostly because it's not possible). Additionally, due to the game structure, there is no gold selling.

4. Bigger player base -- I've seen around 1600 players spread out across the servers I play on (Joker East, North America). More people, more interesting characters, more weird tactics, etc.


5. Free to play -- yes, you can "buy" items, but they are not necessarily BETTER. They are more sidegrades. Ultimately, you have to play intelligently, play to your weapon's strengths and your opponent's weapon's weaknesses. If you have a sniper rifle, don't play point. If you have an SMG, don't try to snipe, etc.


It's a lot of fun, addictive, and hilarious. Go get it.
