Hey guys, I just ordered me a E8500 from Newegg and I know that the new E0 stepping was just released on July 18th. Has anyone here got one or know of someone with the E0 version? I really hope that Newegg doesn't shaft me on that. :(

Tried to talk to their chat agents but she said some BS about "not being able to verify that they have the latest revision, but that their stock usually moves fast enough that they will have the revision." If I were to believe that then almost a month after the release of the stepping I would think I would get it!

Let me know what you guys think.
 
Not gonna be an E0, I can guarantee it. Too much stock on the old still. Which is why I'll probably spend the bucks and get an E8600 so I know for sure.
 
The Intel sspec number to look for on the box or the IHS is.

E8400 (E0) - SLB9J
E8500 (E0) - SLB9K

The original C0 versions are:
E8400 (C0) - SLAPL
E8500 (C0) - SLAPK

Intel doesn't have the new ones listed on their site yet which means retail probably has mostly old stock at the moment. Most stores won't bother telling you anything over the phone so it's good to go in person and get your hands on one so you can see if it is an E0 or not.

Ya I knew the sSpec numbers, but there is no way for me to go to Newegg and just ask them to let me look at their E8500's.:rolleyes:
 
I got an E8600 ES chip right now, and while officially my Blackbird striker extreme 680i board doesn't support it, it seems to be working fine. It is a Revision A, E0 Stepping chip.
I think it will be a long while (relatively) before we see E0 stepping on the rest of the chips... seems like they may require a bios flash too, since my board supports up to the E8600 with no issues...
 
Just get an E8600 E0 - I just bought one off NewEgg for $279 shipped. Not too bad of an introductory price! :) Can't wait, haha.

Except the price difference of $95 does not justify the extra .5x multiplier in my opinion. I paid $184.99 shipped at Newegg.

Not just the multi man. The new E0 stepping and the binning. The E8600's are low voltage beasts.

Well I will be getting E0 stepping anyways, also only a couple of E8600's have been tested so I'm yet to be convinced that they will OC better then the E8500, other then the increased multiplier.

I lucked out and managed to get a combo deal for a Corsair HX620 and Intel E8500 for $309, right after the E8500s dropped in price... Basically got it for $164 shipped based on today's non-combo price. :D

Nice! I would have liked a 20 dollar discount, w/out the psu though as I already have one lol.
 
What does Rev E0 do to E8400/E8500? Does it give them the same features as E8600 now?
 
Can someone give a noob a quick primer or give a link explaining about what these different E0/C0 etc etc things are and what they do? Are they just different revisions of the chip? They seem important enough to merit some research before I drop a ton of money on my new system, but I've really never heard of them before.

Exactly, revisions. The E0 stepping brings a few new instructions and (for reasons unknown to myself) they are rumoured to overclock better. Perhaps it has to do w/ manufacturing.

The reason that they are "supposed" to overclock better is that there have been improvents in their manufacturing like you said. It's still unconfirmed whether it will be noticably different though.
 
I think if its worth so much to everyone to get an E0 the price difference shouldn't be a problem.
 
Got my E8500 at Newegg a couple of weeks ago. It's a C0 and until TODAY was the Top Dog in Intels Kennel. I was going to wait on the E0's but for $190. I couldn't wait any longer.

Ya that's how I was when I ordered mine, I only hope I was able to hold off long enough to get the E0. Mine should come in Weds.
 
I just saw MicroCenter has the E8400 for a mere $159!!! Wow! If I manage to get an E0 Stepping, I will stay with this for awhile until Nehalem is in full swing (cheaper by then, I hope).
 
Processor is at my house... I am dying to go home and see what stepping it is. Hoping for E0.
 
Good luck with that Camaroz28. I'm thinking there's a 99.2% chance it's a C0. Please report back to us!
 
And now the E8400 is just $149!!! I have to go and check it out, if it's E0 then I will buy it for sure (which I doubt because it's not widely circulated just yet). If not, I might just wait it out for Nehalem.
 
GAY C0 stepping... o well it still performs a heck of a lot better then my old proc with the exact same core speed.
 
By seeing the package how can I differentiate if its E0? Where is it written in the package?an someone send me the snapshots?

This saturday I am purchasing E8400.

That's the info you will need to see if it's an E0 or not.
