Anyone Getting Resistance 2 ?

Resistance 2 seems just as mediocre as resistance 1. Just another fps. Don't care whether it's console or pc, it's tired.

I'm curious what games do you have for the PS3? because I smell an xbot that is trying to appear non bias by adding PS3 to their sig

These FPS games just don't do it for me lately. What did halo 3 add to the genre? What did R1 or R2 add? They're just reskinned shooters with slightly different weapons and themes. Yawwwwwwwwwwn.

So you must be an xbot to hate resistance? Guess that's why I've been shitting on halo3 since it came out. And check the 50 page "i got a ps3 on ebay for 100$ thread" for my story of getting a ps3. Have had one for a few months now.

But I guess that's not believable since everyone in your world apparently must love Resistance or they're an xbot....

I have a PS3 too and I dog it alot since it's simply not my fav system. Didn't think it would end up that way. But there have been a lot of stupid decisions Sony has done with the system. Their whole campaign is laughable. But it's a solid system. But really only getting exclusives on it. Everything else is PC or Xbox. I know exactly where technoob is coming from. I'm sure he likes his PS3 too.

The systems exclusives are pretty good. But I also understand technoob stance on FPS. Everyone goes in and out of liking a genre. Currently I'm back in full mode of them. But I'll be getting GoW2 first. :D

Indeed, my plans stretch back for months, when I insidiously faked all those posts about buying a ps3, wasted hours of my life asking how to get the blu ray drive working, and bought that hard drive on newegg, all so I can get people I don't know to think that my arguments are 1% stronger because I can falsely claim I have both consoles. You've done it sherlock!

And no, you can't have my xbl ID either. I must not have one of those.

The best part about this is picturing you clutching your ps3 tight to your chest, shaking your head in denial that someone who has one might not like one game on it.

Considering you say you bought it on ebay for $100 I'm going to assume that the portion here about getting the blu-ray to work was due to the low-priced purchase and not just because you're a moron... right?

Yeah, paid a little over 100 plus shipping, blu ray drive at first wouldn't play games, although dvds and ps2 games worked fine. Had to do the fix here - http://forums.llamma.com/viewtopic.php?t=13306. Works fine now. I am in fact a moron, but for non console related reasons.

I think its a solid game that will once again be overshadowed by better games released at about the same time.

I think GoW will once again overshadow it. The sales should be solid, but not just earth shattering. Other games got more hype (LBP, GoW2, Fable 2, Fallout 3), but I did see a Resistance 2 commercial.

Look how long I've been a member... I used to enjoy coming to these forums, because people used to actually talk about games. Now [H] consists mostly of flame wars... anyways back on topic.

I plan on picking this up after work. Then going to play it until I fall over and pass out. I've already got some people on my PSN buddy list who plan on picking this up and getting down on some online co-op.

Iv'e posted this before but i'll give my impression here since it's the semi-official thread I suppose. Gameplay wise the game may or may not be better compared to the first - I preferred having multiple weapons to choose from in any given situation in the first Resistance, now it's been gimped to just two weapons like most other FPS games. Again, that's fine if that's what you prefer.

The story is nicely done but I would have preferred to have some narration ala the first game - things get a bit jumbled at times which leads me to my next point. Each section of the game ends abruptly and the cutscenes are in and out, your in the middle of action when all of a sudden black screen...loading.....then cutscene...then black....loading...next level. Don't like it.

The animation could have used some tuning, every now and then you'll see some jerky run movements or if you notice the run+jump animation for hale is pretty horrid. The texture/model work are hit and miss - sometimes you'll see some amazing textures, run down the map a little and run into some blurred low res textures - kills the effect.

After all that i'm sure it seems I can't stand the game, which is not true. Harsh criticism I know but I personally think Insomniac can do better than this - I don't know what the time constraints were or if they just wanted to keep up with the resistance one year and ratchet the next cycle but a rushed game is a rushed game. You will definetly enjoy the game, don't be scared to make a purchase just because I think the game could have been better from a technology standpoint - the gameplay is still tried and true Insomniac, and it's wonderful.
 
Come on Sixthsense. You are on my PS3 friends list, and I am not a fan of Resistance at all (based on my playing through Resistance 1 a couple times). Just because I don't like it doesn't mean I don't have a PS3.

Can't we all get along! :)

We all know you have a PS3, that's what makes it "okay" for you to bash it.
 
I like it, I didn't like the first one enough to complete it but this one seems different. The aiming is much more precise now and the whole mood of the game is very grim and dark and bloody and I think the story is much better.

I would say if you liked the first one, go buy it now.
If the first one was just ok to you, rent or buy.

The whole game reminds me of HL2 for some reason, but that's a good thing.

And it's worth a rental just to see the Leviathan boss fight, one of the coolest things I've ever seen in a videogame.

Eurogamer review is up and he hints at the HL2 feelings also, also says the single player mode is better than any af Halo's.
 
I do think the single player campaign for Resistance 2 is more engaging than Halo 3's was (though I bought Halo 3 mostly for multiplayer.) I'm not sure how R2's multiplayer is since I haven't had much time to dedicate to it.
 
I just picked up my copy, what times are some of you free to get down on some Co-Op?
 
I'm not saying all console shooters are bad, because they're not. However, the PS 3 controller is not fit for any console shooter. The joysticks are terrible and loose. Not to mention the placement feels awkward when you constantly have to place both of your thumbs down. It's ergonomically incorrect and a severe disadvantage. I would of considered it a distinct possibility had the joysticks been stratified on the controller layout and the quality of the joysticks them selves dramatically increased. I feel this generation, the Xbox 360 has the advantage when it comes to a gamepad.

I gave in.. ordered it last night from CC for $48.. hopefully its good as I haven't gotten a chance to play the first one. Maybe this will bring some life into my PS3 that hasn't seen use for the past month.
 
I probably won't be getting this. I did like the first one, and I'll probably rent the sequel, but since you cannot play through the campaign in co-op, it's not a must-buy for me. The co-op they do have sounds fun, I guess, but I'd have preferred the option to play through the campaign with a friend like in the first game.
 
yup , i rented the game last night
although the single player campaign is ok but its not for me it feels like a console shooter
but the co-op 2 player online is pretty fun but its kinda boring and all you do is shoot through waves of enemies not really and mission critical stuff
 
I picked it up last night, its just okay so far.. whats with the 720p rez? deosnt look all that great on my 57" HD... guess it will have to do until Killzone2 comes out.
