Anyone else loathe Rebates?

bought my new lcd in November.. suppose to get 3 rebates.. havent seen any in 4 months.. oh well... getting to think rebates are bogus... however! I did get my creative labs rebate!

Thats a great article. :) Im still waiting on about 4 rebates.

I've got every rebate back I ever sent in, the only problem was a deal CompUSA had on buy 3x 50 pack of CD-R's, get $3 back each ($9 total), and I only got $3 back. Other than that I've never had an issue with rebates, though I never let them persuade me to actually buy something.

Yea.. I lost out on $40 from my 2gb of Corsair XMS RAM because I was too lazy to fill out the rebate form.

Actually.. I did it. We just didn't have any $0.02 stamps.

Im happy. Best Buy just dropped all rebates to instant and now when hard drvies go on sale for 20 bucks you go to the store and pay just 20 bucks. Thank god!!! Still hate their return policy though.

I hate rebates.
It's a bunch of bullshit to get 10 dollars back on a product that should have been priced 10 dollars lower to begin with.

great, ive got 2 rebates from tiger direct to send out..... Has anyone gotten tiger direct rebates back?

I hate the idea behind rebates.... basically, trying to screw people out of money with the false sense of getting something cheap. You figure how much is your time worth, and how much time and effort it takes to get your money back, and how long they hold your money for... it's lame. I generally avoid rebates unless i'm going to buy it anyway and it just so happens to have a rebate on it.

I hate rebates so much I'll never buy anything that has one again. About 2 years ago I bought four things from tigerdirect, got 2 rebates back, about 6 months after I ordered.

A single mail in rebate is usually fine by me. I have always gotten back rebates on items (of the limited number of rebates I deal with). It sometimes takes a while, and a lot of harassing the company on my part (4+ months to get a mail in back from a Samsung LCD) but if you take a bit of time and do things right the vast majority of the time you get your money.
The real scams are the products with 3 mail in rebates each requirering the original UPC from the box.

Of course I'm always willing to pay another $5-10 on an 'out the door' sale price than a cheaper mail in rebate price. Ease wins out over miserly at times.

PITA for sure. Did do the BestBuy online submission after Christmas, got checks in two weeks

I don't frequent Best Buy, but please PLEASE PM me when one of these sales is happening!
Also.. Damn rebates.. OFF WITH THEIR HEADS! :-P

I'm fine with rebates as long as it's a no BS rebate. Problem is, there are more companies that are dishonest about it than there are that are honest. They seem to do everything to make it nearly impossible to file the rebate, and then on top of that, they'll reject it for the smallest thing. I don't mind doing a rebate for as little as $5, as long as I'm not going to get some bullshit with it where I have to wait six months or I get rejected for a dumb reason. I actually just bought a PSU in the HotDeals forum that had two $50 rebates on it... it'll be free.... once the rebates come.

Why not just mark the price down to begin with?

Companies are banking on the fact that 30-50% of people will not send in their rebate forms, or send them in incorrectly.

Why give a discount to everyone when you can give it to only 50-70% and get the same number of sales?

I got screwed by the CompUSA 2-step. Product had multiple rebates advertised. ALL of them required the original receipt and UPC code.

They could not help me, of course.

Because then everyone would get the discount. They count on a high percentage never filing, along with the percentage that gets 'accidently' lost, and their outlay gets minimized.

I avoid rebated items unless it is a good product and offer without the rebate. A few years ago I bought a $1000 item with a $400 rebate attached. Sent everything in properly, waited and waited and finally called to be told they hadn't received the rebate properly. I copied and resent everything, never got the rebate and called again to be told they never received the second rebate and the timeline for submitting rebates had passed.

Many of these companies don't handle their own rebate offers. They contract outside firms in such a way as to benefit these companies for denying claims.

Never again!

Rebates are a major PITA!

I sent three in back in October, and just got the first check back from HP yesterday.
I'm still waiting on the others from Epson. I'd be willing to wager even money, that I'll never
get the check, or if it does come, it will be another 3 months.
