i am looking for 2.0 compact high quality loud speakrs. for specifics read below.






i have a 3disc sony cd stereo with 2 big speakers. they are great i have them hooked up through rca and i use them as my pc speakers. i love how loud they get and the sound quality is amazing. the only problem is they are FREAKING huge. i want something that gets loud and high quality but as small as i can get them. i would prefere 2.0. i dont' care for a subwoofer. i cant' find anything with a 2.0 setup that is nearly as good as my stereo. i tried the creative i-trigue 2200 and they are perfect size perfect looks perfect everrything, even sound qulaity perfect. only problem is they don't get very loud. i wanna be able to watch movies with these things and listen to loud music. any suggestions?
 
Sounds like a pair of studio monitors matches your purpose fine. Check this page at zzounds.com for some options. Be warned, though - these things are not cheap. The cheapest "real" (not "personal") set I see is $300 a pair. You could also get passive ones and a reciever for more future upgrade potential.

Also, please post a budget - it really helps to know where to aim.

 
I havent been impressed with too many small sized speakers, other than Infinity's.

If you want to go cheap, find some old used minimus 7 radio shack speakers, they sound very good, very smooth with amazingly deep bass (for their size) and an overall clean sound.

They are not as efficient (loud) as many larger speakers but they sound better than most any other small speaker.

The only problem is Radio Shack doesnt sale them anymore. I find them usually at flea markets for almost nothing, usually with a burnt out tweeter or woofer, but you can buy 4 or 5 for very little and swap drives to get a good working pair with very little effort. They come in either a black metal or wood grain finish, and some are labeled Optimus 7.
 
The first ones are passive, they'd need an amp. The second are powered, but don't look real impressive; I've heard good things about the swans m200 in that price range.

 
yeah those m200's look like exactly what i want but maybe something very similar but a little cheaper?

if you go much cheaper.. your going to get into the "I wish I would have saved a few more bucks and got better speakers" range. :)

Do you have a spare reciever lying around? You can get some Alesis Monitor Ones for pretty cheap. I have a set that I have used for about 6 years.

i just wish they werent' so big. i'm looking for something a little more compact but they are the exact same size as my sony 3 disc player stereo. except its only the speakrs and no amp stereo. so it should work
