any new 30" monitors coming up? aside from the dell 3008

I would pay the premium but only if the panel is IPS based.

Aimed at professional's what PVA based monitors?

$4000 for a LED PVA based LCD! dont make me laugh, is that some kind of sick joke.

The germans have the XL30 listed at 3600 euro, thats $5300 now put that into perspective.

I agree about the IPS panel part, that is why I am not looking to purchase that monitor but am looking more closely at the Dell, the rumoured LG monitor and waiting to see whether a new Apple is announced in the coming weeks.

I haven't looked that deeply into the specs of the XL30 in a while now but as far as I remember it was more aimed at the professional market and even came with a calibration device. My apologies if that isn't the case.

Also you can't always just directly convert prices. Here in England we end up paying a lot more for our stuff than you lot do! For example a Dell 3007WFP-HC would cost around £870 (~$1720) here whereas on dell.com it is $1,189.00 (~£600). A Samsung 305T £950 (~$1875) whereas just had a quick look on pricegrabber.com and it gives me a best price of $1193 (~£575). On that link you gave they have a 305T on a German site for 1146 euros which works out around £850 or $1690.

it comes with a i1display 2 (~200$), but other that that it seems to be a LED 305T.

Minus 19% salestax so ~ £690 or $1370 if converted to us prices, which isn't too bad considering the weak $.

the $5300 price is just as a reference, my complaint is the use of LED's on a PVA based monitor. YOU GAIN NOTHING only an increase in gamut which is useless anyway as you still have the contrast shift.

Anyone know if and when 30" displays with 3840x2400 resolution will be released? I've heard some recent rumors that this will be the next high end display specification in the near future.

Ohhh, that would be sweet. I would upgrade immediately. I've had my Dell 3007WFP for almost two years now, and I love it, but would definitely love an even higher res.

3840x2400 on a 30"? Ohh come on, text would be so small it would almost be unreadable. Even 30" at 2560x1600 have some of the smallest pixel pitches out there already.

I think that some notebook resolutions might have smaller or similar pixel pitches. You think that would be small, but 3840x2400 has already been implemented on 22" displays for the better part of the decade: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_T220/T221_LCD_monitors

To me, WQUXGA makes perfect sense in the 30" size format.

Here's a picture of the desktop of one of the 22" monitors with this resolution. Notice the start menu: http://trendy.nikkeibp.co.jp/article/column/20070614/1000886/?SS=imgview&FD=310343400
