Heyas! This is your typical "last minute advice" thread. I've been out of the loop for some time now (upgrading from the ol A7N8X/XP 2600/9700 PRO system, haha I know) but I think I've finally settled on what I'd like to get.

My main priority is gaming (WoW, Team Fortress 2, Quake Wars)

Budget = "around $1,000" The main goal for me is to do what I did so long ago and buy a top notch system with the hopes of it lasting as long as possible. Heres the list...

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz
Mobo: ABIT IP35 Pro
GPU: EVGA 8800GTS 640MB
RAM: Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s
PSU: AeroCool ZERODBA-S620

Initial price = $1,203.93 (this is only from newegg, will search for deals once list is finalized)

I'm not really crazy about overclocking but from what I've read the 6600's do so pretty easily, so I'll plan on picking up a high quality heat sink in the future. I guess my only concern is the longevity of the 8800GTS as oppose to getting the GTX? But I think thats just me wanting to get the current top dog =) I don't plan on playing anything above 1600x1200 so I think I'll be ok?

You should be good to go. Good component selection.
How about a bigger HDD though? Soundcard? Also, is that PSU going to be up to snuff for your system?

Forgot to mention I already have a Soundblaster XFI. Along with the better heatsink I plan on buying a secondary hard drive soon, just trying to keep the price not *too* high for the time being =) I saw that PSU recommended with a similar system at Tomshardware so I assumed it would be sufficient enough, any other recommendation?
 
Looks good. Get the Q6600 from clubit.com, since they guarantee the G0 stepping. The G0 stepping runs cooler, and therefore overclocks better.

A popular PSU choice around here is the Corsair HX620, which is made by Seasonic and is modular.

The GTS 640MB should be fine. If you want to save more cash, turn the detail down and get the 320MB. If you're a hardcore gamer, go for the GTX. Keep in mind new DX10 cards are comin out Q1'08.

Oh, if you don't mind ATI, the HD 2900Pro 512MB is also a good choice. It can easily reach XT speeds.
 
DO NOT BUY A IP35 OR ANY A-BIT MOTHERBOARD W/A P35 CHIPSET!!!!!!

I've had many & they do not work ... save yourself the headache & go w/anything else but them.
 
Wow that was very helpful. A little bit more elaboration about your problem (system specs, your definition of "not working", etc) along with no shouting would've made your suggestion a bit more reasonable.

FYI, I've used the IP35-E before and had no problem with it.

Many people have had only one, and they work great. Why have you had many, yet none work?

I have the IP35-E and it works great. The ABIT IP35 Pro is an excellent motherboard, has won numerous awards, received several reviews, and is great for overclocking.
 
I've had several handful's of ip35-e's and they're perfect.
