Having returned my Northwood 3.06/533/512 when it turned out to be a Mobile, I'm back looking to purchase another one that will actually hit its speed on the desktop.

There appears to have been two steppings of that chip

The C1 SL6S5 is more common, I believe.

the D1 SL6PG also is around.

Not that it makes any difference, since googling turns up nothing about the SL6PG, so I'm likely to go with the earlier stepping. But it seems either one is about the same. Does anyone have any info on these? Thanks...
 
later steppings overclock better.

DISCLAIMER: COMPLETE GENERALIZATIONS BELOW

Northwood
----------------------------
A steppings hit 2.5
B steppings hit 2.8
C steppings hit 3.0
D steppings hit 3.3+
M steppings hit 3.4+

The first few steppings had problems reaching 3Ghz, later steppings like the D1 & M0 often hit 3.4+
 
Hmm...I was pretty sure s478 3.06Ghz mobiles did NOT have HT, or at least most of them didn't.

What I am 99% sure of is that all desktop 3.06Ghz/533FSB/512K chips had HT in s478.

The mobile that I returned was an Engineering Sample. It showed HT on two different mobos, but I couldn't get the multi beyond 12, so I could get it to about 2400 with a 200FSB before the memory crapped out on the lowest divider

Well, who knows what you get with ES chips :D.

I've been looking around, and I still haven't seen an example of a desktop 3.06Ghz Northwood that doesn't have HT no matter what stepping. Granted you can get it in Celeron D or Prescott flavors, but not Northwood.
