I'm trying to hunt down a Core 2 board (965p and such) that has a second IDE.. Do any of them have it?

I dont' want to buy ANOTHER harddrive....

I don't think there are any 965 boards with 2 IDE slots. Since PATA isn't native on the 965 chipsets, manufacturers choose to add a PATA controller at their own convenience. I think it is very doubtful that any 965 boards will ship with 2.

just get a ide to sata converter for your harddrive. one should have came with your mobo. at least mine did.

Nah, most don't come with one. In fact, most of those adapters (like the one from Abit) are a pain to find. There are some random ones out there that can be had for $15-20, but supposedly your mileage may vary. Can't you master/slave the 2 you have using the one slot? I haven't really had to work with 2 HD's in a long time, but wouldn't that work?

The nForce 570 boards have 2 IDE connectors, but they're said to be pieces of shit (for the enthusiast, I'm sure they'd be fine for a non-enthusiast).

Personally, I'm thrilled with Intel's push to get us all off IDE. IDE sucks and SATA is the new king. I'll never buy an IDE HDD again. Yeah it sucks the opticals drives aren't readily available, but someone's gotta put pressure on the industry. Might as well be the mobo makers.

Agreed 100%, it's just a little annoying that the optical drive makers aren't budging. From what I gather there's only *one* SATA DVD drive on the market and it's literally just a normal IDE one with one of those adapters built into it.

ecs makes c2d boards with 2 different via (yeesh) chipsets that have 2 ide ports. they also make a nforce 570 sli with 2. asus nforce 570 sli has 2. as does the asus p5n32sli se deluxe, and the asus p5wdh deluxe and the msi (yeesh) 975 board.
so you have the choice of buying another drive, a shitty mainboard, or a expensive mainboard thats not particulary shitty. unless, of course i completely misunderstood the "and such" part of "965p and such"
the towering monuments of engineering excellence, the dfi infinty 975 and the foxconn 975, sadly dont have 2 ide ports, so you are spared making this difficult decision.

This whole Intel pushing to get rid of IDE is pissing me off hard core. I buy a $330 mobo that doesnt have enough ports so I have to either drop $20 for an ide to sata converter or buy a new hdd. when you spend that much you shouldn't be inconvenienced like this. And before people go and say well you should have looked into that before buying the mobo I did and newegg had one for $12 but yesterday when I went to order they wanted $5 shipping for this tiny ass part and it just sent me off.

I believe something like this is what the OP would need.

I've used two different ones of these and neither of them works particularly well. The throughput is horrendous. I tried it with CD Drives, not HDD's though. Maybe it does work for HDD's.
