Any Cons for 5870s???

I am ordering my 5870s Tonight and i would like to know some cons about them before i get them... I am a Moderate Gamer, Mainly just play All the Crysis Series NFS and Dragon Age. I have 3 Dell U2311H's and will be running them on the mDP to DP adaptors to Avoid Shuttering and Tearing. Am getting 2 Now for CF. I Have a 100W PSU so that is no issue. After this post i am updating my Sig with my Current Rig.

So i would like to know some Cons that would be deal breakers at this point, not including CF scaling, shuttering/tearing using adapters, etc. I mean like hard on they over heat easily or die within a week etc. stuff like that.

Also i do plan to go 5x1p in the next few months (estimated Sept. or Dec. (birthday and christmas :D ))

Get a cooler for them. They get hot especially the ram and start to stutter
 
Whoa! If you haven't ordered yet, DON'T! the 5800 series do NOT scale well in crossfire. Grab some 6900's if you can afford it.
 
At +/- $170 x 2 = $340 they are a GREAT deal!

Just be careful of the 1GB VRam. Scaling is a little lower than new cards, but they are "Limited" to 3x Displays & 1 GB.

The 2GB versions for 6 & 5x Displays are harder to find now and probably not worth the price premium they could carry.

he did mention he is planning on getting a 5x1 setup. In the next few months. He will need all the vram he can get... 5XXX series is the wrong choice. 6950s would be a better choice. Even if you don't unlock them. If he is staying 3x1. 5870s would be perfect, especially at the price they are now.
 
Well the 5870 e6 cards were what i was looking at so i can do 5x1 They are the Only cards that can besides the 900$ xfx 5970, and 6990. and the gigabyte E6 cards are 250 a pop Which is not bad, i know i can get 2 6950s for that price and with their limit of 3x1 they would be OK for now but not long run. If i had the money to go 3x1 on 30s then 6950s would per perfect :D Again tho remember i am a moderate gamer so a little bit worse scaling is no biggie to me.
 
Also from what i have seen in benches the E6 5870s are almost on Par with todays 6950s (well in the games i play)

+1, exactly.

OP, if you really want to harness 5 displays, you want 6950s. It's as simple as that, the 5800 series scaling and VRAM will leave you asking for more compared to two 6950s.

EDIT: Well, with two 6950s you would have to figure out display connectivity too. Hmmmmm. That's a whole question in itself. If you can figure out display connectivity by getting DP adapters, whichever kind you would need, it would still be the best choice in my opinion.

As i agree that the 6950s would be a better buy. The fact that they can only support 3x1 natively is discouraging. You also have to remember the E6 5870s do have 2gb of VRAM so that will not be an issue but scaling will yes. HMM the 6990 is also an option but at 700$ its not high up there...
 
I had nothing but good things to say about my XFX 5870 1GB. Great cards but the 6950 would be a more robust solution.
 
I just picked up my 6870 for like 170 bucks I Plan to Xfire soon. Should be comparable, if not better, in the long run then the 5870. .
 
Aww what the hell ill get them, if they suck ill return them and get something else...
