I need to replace a 9800GT that is in my sister's computer. It bit the dust and I don't know if anything out there that is cheap can compare to it. Her cpu is only an AMD x2 4800+ and 4gb ram I believe. They pretty much just use the computer for basic internet use and my niece plays Sims 3 on it.

Grab a used card, maybe a 4870 or so, should be in your budget and a bit of an upgrade.

Might be able to snag a used 7750 or a GTX 650 for that price.

New...I'd say maybe a 6670.

Try for a used GTX 460. It'll be the best value you can find, and I'm sure you'll find one for $60 if you post a WTB thread in our FS/T section.

I bought an XFX 6770 for a few bucks more than the other one posted. I may have an 8400gs at home, which of I do I'll put that in there temp, return the 6770 and buy a used 7770 (or whatever best gpu I can get for around $80) to help them down the road.

I have a XFX 6770 also. I can play a lot a games @ 1600x900 (including Skyrim) at medium or high resolutions. The 7770 is basically the same card. So the 6770 should be enough for their needs.

EVGA Store had a B-Stock sale
3BTECH can have some reasonable cards (note white box, refurb)

I think you mean that the 5770 and 6770 are the same, the 7770 is noticeably more powerful than the 6770.

I'll sell a 550 ti PNY for $60. I wanna get a gtx 760

If you have a Microcenter near you, they have a GTS 450 (reference) for $44 in store.

Used or refurbished, nVidia GTX 460, GTX 550 Ti or 560 Ti, or AMD HD5770/6770/6850.

All have at least 1GB of GDDR5; while the AMD HD5770/6770 have a 128-bit memory bus, a bit of a bottleneck, the two Tis have a 192-bit memory bus, and the HD6850 has a 256-bit bus; some even have 2GB of GDDR5.

As long as you have a solid quad-core (even Q6600), 1680x1050 (fully firewalled) is going to be an option in darn near any game (possible exceptions - the most recent Battlefield or CoD titles; I haven't tested any of them yet since my GPU swap). In my seat-of-pants testing so far, I'm at 1920x1080 (again, either firewalled completely or firewalled everywhere but AA) in every game I've thrown at a GTX 550 Ti/Q6600 tag-team (both stock) - including Crysis 2/3 and Starcraft II (both Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm are fully firewalled, including AA, while the CryEngine 3 titles are at Ultra LOD - no AA in C2, and 1x SMAA in C3).

Yes - we're talking years-dead GPU hardware; however, dead doesn't mean it is irrelevant.
