staring at a true-flat 17" CRT with damaged antiglare screen.

is there any way to REMOVE it? we've tried Windex and Paint Stripper - to no avail. please help!
 
You want to remove the antiglare coating?

Just keep rubbing away with alcohol based cleaners or that Windex, it'll go away and you'll be basking in glare.

And using Windex and paint stripper to restore it was not a very good idea at all (since they strip away the coating).
 
dammit... i just want this thing either on or off. right now it's all spotty.

Really?!? Then how come it didn't?

That striper eats plastic like a fat check eats Twinkies, but that anti glare stuff is like a damn slim fast that just sits its ass in the fridge... It's not going anywere.
The Problem at hand is that I have this really kick ass monitor and the anti-glare stuff is all stupid (like its scratched but not glass deep). Is there anyway to save this monitor?
 
Dan's Data had a Q&A on that. If I can find the link I'll post it, but take a peak for yourself in the mean time.
 
I have heard this has been done but it mite not be true.

Take all the coating off (Only if you have no other choice but to throw it away).

Then get some tint screen and try to get the really thin ones that can bend easily while being applied.

But if all else fails your gonna get a new crt anyways.

monitor screen = glass after the coating is off right? couldn't you use a razor blade like taking paint off a window? a suggestion
 
It's all spotty, how. You could just try to clean it.
 
try a VCR head cleaner or goof-off it may work as well, but yuour going to have to let it set

Goof-off is industrial strength cleaner. Look for it at your local Home Depot.

/shameless plug for store I don't work for.
 
I can tell you that you don't use ScotchBrite and SoftScrub. You will be left with scratched glass. Ruined a Mitsubishi Diamondtron 17" Flat CRT this way...all over a small spot by the start button.
 
Have you tried Acetone yet? It is a last resort. You can kind the pure stuff and not the nail polish remover diluted imitation stuff at your local home depot or hardware store. As the other guy said in this thread watch the fumes they are plenty.

Is it this one (under "Scratched screen #5431")? Taking the tube out and buffing... hmm. AG coating is almost more trouble than it's worth, but they also coat a layer of anti-static substance which is helpful.
