antec tri-cool fan controls

They've got this little switch that controls the speed.. what if you cut the wire to that switch and spliced it into a dial, would that control the speed of the fan without any problems? (sometimes 3 speeds isn't good enough)

maybe, but I just would put the switch on high and splice in the variable resistor before the switch, less chance of it not working.

(an inexpensive Zalman Fanmate II would be just the ticket for an inexpensive fan speed control for one fan and you could use existing connectors and just plug stuff in and not mess up the fan wiring if you wanted to go back to the way it was. By the time you find the proper potentiometer and make sure it will handle the wattage and mess with wire splices or soldering etc. a $4.99 fanmate would be a bargain and if you could find one locally and not pay shipping even better. Most likely would work out even cheaper than the pot from radio shack etc. )

just leave the fan on high and use a fan controller if you're dead-set on using the antec tricool. no need to splice anything.
