About a month or so ago I started having problems powering my system up. I would have to toggle the power switch on the power supply and then hit the power switch on the case in order to get the PC to power on. This worked fine up until last Saturday. The computer would no longer boot at all.

Double checked all connections, tried different outlets and all that. Looked at the motherboard while toggling the power supply switch and was no longer getting the green light on the board to light up.

Anyway, still in the process of RMAing the dead power supply, but I found out it'll be like 2 weeks at least to get a replacement from Antec. I decided not to wait and ordered the OCZ GameXstream 700W - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817341002 Hopefully the OCZ power supply will last longer then the Antec. I'm pretty sure the Antec died due to the load I had on it. Even though the system worked fine after it booted, I think the Dual 7800 GTX's cards on the same rail was too much for the poor Antec.

Any thoughts? My system specs are in my sig.

How did you confirm the Antec was dead? Do you have one of those little power supply testers that tells you when a rail has no juice?

If the +5VSB light isn't on on the mobo, that can mean a dead PSU, but also a dead board.

Bet they bulged and puked and now it's dead...

One month in? Hard to say.

Obviously Antec isn't making power supplies for the long term, but if it's not a DOA, I find it unusual that it died only one month into use.

Sorry, my original post was a bit misleading. I have been using the Antec power supply since October of 2005. It worked fine up until about a month ago and then completly stopped working last Saturday. Prior to it "dying" I ran the system with the case open for about a week. I did that because I was testing various PSU load configurations to try and figure out if I had too much load on a particular rail. I figured that was why I couldn't power the computer on without first toggling the power switch on the PSU itself. However, no matter what I tried, I still had to toggle the switch.

The OCZ should be delivered on Friday. Hopefully the system works properly after installed. If the system still won't power on properly then it's probably the motherboard. I'm pretty sure it's the PSU that is the problem though. Until then I'm going to pickup a PSU tester and test the Antec (It's been removed from the computer).

Sounds about the right age for Cooked Fuhjyyu Syndrome. The FSP/OCZ should last significantly longer.

I blew out my old Antec TP-430 after upgrading to agp gf-6800 (back then). It was a week shy of the 3-year warranty and I couldn't find the receipt. Antec was willing to sell me a replacement, then refund the $100 when they received my shipped-back unit.

The replacement was a TP 2.0-430 with TP2 features removed - so it had the amerages of 2.0, but no pcie or 24-pin power connectors.

Overall, it was a good experience (except for the POP and horrible stench from the PSU. And the inconvenience). Well, it was a good PSU and a good RMA experience.

I enjoy seeing an Antec blow up as much as the next guy, but I also like to gamble.

I've got $20 down on a dead motherboard. :)

OP has yet to confirm how it was determined that the power supply was in fact dead. Was a "temporary solution" installed for the interem? ;)

Is that $20 deliverable via Paypal or what? :p

Currently the computer is sitting idle with no PSU and various cards removed. In the meantime, I've been using my laptop and secondary system for my computing needs. The only determinating factors I used to determine that the PSU was dead, was just what I had in my 2 posts above. However, last night I went out to CompUSA and bought their little PSU tester. The little guy would not light up at all. Pretty sure at this point the PSU is tits up.

The OCZ will be here tomorrow... I'll report back on the state of the system after I install it.

There you go. ;) That should've been the first thing you did. Looks like I lost $20. ;)

That'll show the power supply starts up, but it doesn't show you that all of the voltages are present. You can have a PSU that "starts up," but say there is no +5VSB... the motherboard wouldn't even know to start up the PSU.
