Antec P180

estimated price range?

God only knows.

The page I linked isn't even officially published yet (you can't navigate to it from the Antec home page....heh, I sort of hacked it by guessing how their product naming scheme worked, the P160 was "...81600"), so there's nothing on price yet that I can see.

I'm building by the end of July and I really hope this case is available by then. I want to use the Antec P180 with the new Antec Phantom 500 "Hybrid" PSU. The PSU has a fan, but can operate fanless and I think the P180 with a silent Nexus 120mm in the PSU duct can keep the temps low enough on the PSU that the fan will never come on and ramp up to speed. I just hope the Phantom 500 can power two Geforce 7800GTX video cards in SLI...

[OT]
The Nvidia Geforce 7800GTX requires a 500w PSU with 34A on the 12V rail and takes up a single slot. I'm also interested in the silent Sapphire Radeon X850XT PE card that uses liquid metal and flux pumps, but I'd prefer to get something with SM3.0 for Unreal3. I also saw a picture of a mobo that had the same kind of cooling for the north bridge BTW. [/OT]

This box is going in the living room next to my HDTV so its got to look good but not be heard. The sleek silver should match perfectly with my set. I hope Newegg lists the P180 soon...

This case could easily make for some funky watercooling setups, lol. I might purchase one of these and trade my beloved Super Lanboy to my friend in exchange for cash.

Check throughout the thread here for price quotes from various manufacturers and whatnot, and see the original links-- the price range appears to be ~$160-$175 USD

I am so excited.... I can't wait to get this beauty in- I've been holding off on OC'ing and all with the crapper case I have now...no room for airflow...

Now that I will have some room to work with I think I'll get that Zalman 7700 out of the closet and get ready to rumble :D

I've done a Froogle search and some sites have the P180 listed around $130 US. But, who knows could go for more.

hmm... from froogle searching, i was able to narrow the avaliablility being at the end of this month and at the beginning of june.

I was originally all for this case, but they ended up using steel for most if not everything, and I'm looking at getting a bigger, lighter case, not a heavier case :( For those who want a good mid-full tower that wont get moved a lot, has a ton of great features & new concepts, and excellent airflow, look no further than the P180.

Ah, it depends really how much ya move it. My current case (GMC Neo Classic) is heavy as hell but it's worth it in my opinion. I'm deffinately into the added protection and such. I've dropped my case down the stairs (not on purpose, mind you), and nothing was harmed. The weight isn't a huge deal if ya got a little muscle. I've carried mine up flights of stairs without it being too much trouble and having to stop at all (besides that one time I dropped it, heh). :D It deffinately isn't light though. If I moved my comp every day, I wouldn't be using it.

only the frame is steel, the side panels are aluminum layered on plastic layered on aluminum.

I think the idea behind the steel was to create a heavier, more vibration free chassis. In my experience, steel cases tend to muffle "humming" noises from hd's, fans, etc.

I agree-- the focus of this case was never portability-- there are other LAN-game-oriented boxes for that.

I WANT my case to have some weight to it-- I'm sick of these lightweight flimsy things-- and my goal was, is, and always shall be SILENCE and cooling--- exactly what this case offers-- and it looks absolutely awesome by-the-by....

I could care less about how heavy a computer case is, like honestly. When you go to a LAN (once a month) who the fuck cares about lifting a 50lb computer once a month! Would you rather have a strong case for moving a lot or a weak case that could easily get thrased around. I for one take a strong case.

HERE'S the Froogle search showing about a million listings for the case--

THE TIME DRAWS NEAR!!!!

Oh-- and KrakenGuy-- W3rD!!!

Heh, thanks.

I admit, I love my Super Lanboy, but i've noticed it getting beat up quite a bit you might say. The window has a few scratches, and the side panel for the right side of the case is a little bent from the severe wire management, but other then that, she serves me well.

I will definately consider upgrading to this minifridge (it looks like one, I love that), this thing looks tuff, meant for lan parties.

So, after reading most of the thread I have a few questions that didn't seem to be covered in depth....can you use a PSU like the Seasonic S12-500 with a 120mm fan bottom mounted without cutting up the case? Is that ducting system going to affect what kind of HSF for your CPU you use?

Hard to answer those questions, since no one here has seen the case up close and theew aren't any reviews out yet.

That said, I can't imagine PSUs with bottom mounted fans NOT working since most of Antec's new PSUs have a bottom mounted fan.

Also, the duct system doesn't look that thick, so depending on how tall your HSF is and how thick of a fan you're using, you should be OK. Keep in mind, you don't have to use the duct system.

i think you will have to mount the psu upsidedown if it has a bottom feed fan ...

i'm anxiously awaiting this case as well, and i have actually seen it up close in person. i saw it when we were at CES this past january, we met with Antec in the Bellagio and got to tinker with a pre-production P180.

here's a link to one of our CES coverage articles where we checked out the case (lots of pictures too):

and yes, the PSU goes upside down in the bottom of the case, so you can have a bottom-mounted fan on your PSU with no problem.

I think I read somewhere (Possibly even linked from this thread, or maybe over at the spcr forums) that the p180 allows for PSUs to be mounted regular OR upside down, but that there is enough clearance above and below the PSU for proper airflow either way. The duct has a 120mm fan in it remember, so it's fairly spacious.

Plus, all Antecs own new PSUs (and many of their older ones) have bottom mounted fans, it'd be kind of wierd if their flagship performance case couldn't use them.

If you read the link that you posted, you'd have noted that, like all the other links to stores in the Froogle search link above, the page you referred to has the case as pre-order only.

It's not out yet--anywhere.

Soon, yes....but not yet.

I've had some less encouraging news about an imminent release of the P180. I've emailed a few more retailers. One said that the case was probably 4 weeks away, while another expected it to be out by the end of June.

For those of you who haven't seen yet, this is a must read. I love the folks over at SPCR, I also want the black version of the P180.

Wow  That case is fucking awesome. Blows my Lian Li out of the water. I'm definitely putting in a preorder for the SPCR P180 as soon as it shows up on endpcnoise.

Wow. Awesome case. I can't wait for the release of this bad boy. I do like the industrial look to the front of the case when the door's open.

Oh dear sweet baby Jesus!!!

It comes in black too!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Dammit!!!

Now I have to chooooooooooooooooose!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome link by the way--- many thanks!

Fuuuuuuck and I just finished "Night Wind" too....Arrrrrrrgh!!! Thats like the holy grail of cases!!!

Why, oh why do I have to go to lan parties? If the case would just be a dozen or more pounds less I would be picking this thing up in a flash. Once again, I was drooling over this case like so many of us ever since CES coverage, but the weight just kills it for me. So many genius ideas/concepts, too much weight :(.

Don't be a pussy-- you'll only be a real man if you carry a REAL case to your lanboy parties ;)

A dozen or more pounds....

Sheesh.

lol, think of it as exercise! If you go to enough lan parties, you will get buff and then the girls will be all over you! (Get a 21in CRT for additional muscle building!)
