Antec EA650 or Antec TP3-550

The EA650 is a Delta made unit while the Trio 550 is a Seasonic made unit.

No one has yet tested a Delta made Antec PSU so cannot vouch for their quality. Assuming that they used the same platform for the TP3-650, the TP3-550 is a slightly better choice.

I have the Antec Earthwatts 650, and so far it’s been a pretty fine unit.

Are you sure that the Antec EA-650 is a Delta unit? I’m not necessarily implying that it isn’t a Delta unit, or that it is a Seasonic unit, but I was under the impression that Antec powersupplies made by Delta had a D at the end (example EA-650D) whereas my EA-650 didn’t have that. Given the lack of reviews of this unit I just think it would be best to keep the facts and speculation separate until we really know what is inside this.

It doesn’t have any problems powering my rig with my overclocked B3 Q6600, overclocked 4850, and my 8 hard drives (two of which are fairly power hungry 15k SCSI drives).

The only problem I did have was when I tried to run both my 15k SCSI drives and two of my older 200g Western Digital drives off a single molex chain, and it didn’t like that for some reason. But both of the scsi drives pull over an amp on both the 5 and 12 volt rails and the 200g drives come close to an amp on each as well compared to newer drives which are more along the lines of half an amp per rail. When I moved the 200g drives to another molex chain everything was fine.

Of course the Truepower 550 should be no slouch either, my friend powered his Opteron rig with Dual 8800GTX’s using one of those, though I’m not sure exactly which model truepower550 he had.

That nomenclature is true for all the Earthwatts except the 650. The 650 was the first Delta unit and did not need to carry the D to differentiate a revised model

I have the EA650... but I have no extensive way to test the quality... but my computer has been working for4 months :p lol.

Q6600
3x120mm LED fans
80mm fan
8800GT
320GB sata drive
1 fancontroller.

So not uch to base it off of.
