Hey guys recently modified this case to allow for "30tb advertised" using a rocket raid 2680. Im currently still waiting for the raid card so i cant really post benchmarks but i basicly gonna have 2x raid 6 using Server 2008

feel free to post ur ideas and questions would love to here ur input
just before any one says cooling will be a issue at the front there is 3 12mm fans blowing past the drives

You have 3 120mm drives sucking air in but 1 90mm pulling out. That a lot of positive pressure inside.

haha noo i want less cables and there western digital greens 2tb and i had 9 1tbs in there and wanted more so i modified it a bit to fit more im hoping my sas card arives today and i can put benchmarks up

and the hd on the top of the case i thought i would use as a hot spare just no where to fit it in :)

pretty gutsy call choosing antec300, what made you do it?
anything even a little bit bigger woulda taken just as much drives without needing to punch extra holes in case

Would you post a picture of the front of the case? Did you keep the stock fan locations intact? What about the top three 5.25 bays?

Actually asgards, the only modification I can see that he made was to punch holes in the lower drive rack to allow 3.5 drives to fit more tightly. The antec 300 has (2) 120mm front fans(intake), (1) 120mm rear fan(exhaust), (1) 140mm top fan (exhaust), and (1) 120mm side fan (exhaust in his case) The only fan location he added was within the top 3 5.25 bays, a 3rd 120mm fan, as I understand it - for intake.

Sorry guys didnt realise had so many psople look at this page will update this as i have made many more updates to this

That is awesome. I was actually looking to build my own NAS.
Can you post the mobo, ram, PSU, etc that you are using that with?
Thanks

Out of curiosity - what sort of temps do you get vs. ambient with the drives being that close? I would imagine it would be fine but I'd be interested to see the numbers.

specs are as follows

lga775 core2qaud 3.4ghz
8gig ddr3 ram
windows server 2008
480watt psu
dual gigabit nics in teaming

i used to use this server for storing media + vmware data have only had 1 drive fail i no longer use this as i have upgraded to a 40tb 20 drive design

this was the maximum hdd temp 26C in the new case hdd temps have dropped buy 3-4 degrees increasing drive life
