I was just browsing the "Post your LCD setup" thread this afternoon and I was becoming jealous of everyone's pretty LCDs, not to mention the amount of space everyone had on their desks without three bulky CRTs. However, I have not upgraded to LCD yet because I tend to play a lot of games. I was wondering if gaming on an LCD really is an issue anymore. Please post your thoughts / experiences.

I've been using LCDs since 2002. My first was a 17" 25ms display. There was some ghosting. Not really noticable in games, only time I ever noticed it was when I was dragging a window around.
Since I've moved on to 16ms displays I have not seen any noticable ghosting(if I'm moving a window, the text blurs a bit, woooo). But it really depends on the person. 90% of people cannot see any ghosting on a 16ms LCD. Go to the store and try one out.

My L90D+ does amazing in games. the only smearing/ghosting that occurs is if you're really looking for it. If anything, i think it's an advantage. everything is more defined to me.

I used to be on a good 17" CRT about 4-5 years ago, then switched to a 50ms 15" LCD panel. Needless to say, it wasn't that great... fine for desktop usage, but obvious blurring when in games and moving quickly. Same thing with text. However, when I switched to my Dell 2005FPW widescreen 20.1" 1680x1050 12ms gray-to-gray LCD, it all went away. It looks nearly as good as my CRT always did, and still does when I have compared them side-by-side. The ghosting/blurring is VERY minimal (you can tell if you drag a window side-to-side with text in it on the desktop, as it will blur a little, although going vertically, it doesn't really blur), and it is plenty fine for gaming (it's not noticable at all in games regardless of color brightness/contrast, and I'm very sensitive to image quality defects).
I think the time is about right to jump onto the LCD bandwagon. Prices have dropped immensely, and while they will further drop over the course of this year according to what I have read, the amount won't be as drastic as in this past year. I bought my Dell 2005FPW before the 2405FPW's were even rumored, and have had it since a little after it came out, so I have had plenty of viewing time on it to get some real-world experience. As far as colors are concerned, there is nothing to worry about, as they are very good. The image is far sharper than my CRT was, and the brightness is significantly better as well. The only thing I wish is that I could somehow trade up through Dell to a 2405FPW
