No more MSI mother boards for me this is the 3rd one this year.
right. That's how I killed my MSI mobo. I stuck an X6 in there, cranked up the vcore to 1.45, the OC to about 3.8ghz, and started to smell something funny......I second Gigabyte as I have been impressed after I had an Asus board short out on me in my last gaming rig. However, I suspect that we are driving these boards harder than anyone else out there. In the business world, they might be running 24/7 but they are likely not running the crazy overclocks you guys are.
I don't think a $30-$40 budget 785G mobo was designed to OC a six core chip like that
I bought an MSI P55-GD65 back in October and it's been running an O/C'd i7 24/7 with two video cards and two HDs since then. That's also on an APC 1500VA UPS.

A lot of a mobo's longevity (and its price) depends on the construction. You can't expect a mobo with cheap VRMs for example to last a long time in a stressful environment.
Lehmann, I would be curious to know which MSI boards have failed on you.
You'd be surprised. It really depends on the specific board, what CPU you use, how far you push it, and luck of the draw. But I've seen plenty of budget hardware being used for long periods of time without any issues.

Well, I wouldn't say luck of the draw considering it usually depends on what model board you pick, not what specific sample you get your hands on. In that sense, you may consider it luck to actually find a product that can handle the abuse, but I think that's more a product of good design than anything else.

Again, it depends on the board. I have seen lower-end AMD boards with fairly robust circuitry.your thinking to much about intel.. on the AMD side when its a budget board.. it is a budget board.. the majority of manufactures will not use high end parts any boards under 100 dollars.. so its luck of the draw on what you get.. intel side of things they mostly use the same hardware they just add less features to keep the cost down..
Damm missed my own posted. First time the boss has posted in one of my threads. the board was the msi-p55-cd-53. Over clocks the the i5-750 great. Just cant seem to handle the i7-860's power draw @ 1.85 under load 1.41 idle 190X21 4ghz true120 temps in upper 70's to low 80's depending on room temp. None of them lasted over 12 hours under the 860.
I really thinks it's MSI. The only two MSI boards i've owned have both been high end (k9A2 and the GD80 i think) ones and they usually died after a little less then 6 months. MSI was less than helpful as well. I have mid level asrock and a high end asus board folding for 6 months straight now without a problem.
