I need a good chair. I've been sitting in one of those generic Staples (or whatever) cheap chairs here at work and it hurts my back. I went looking around and scored a Steelcase Leap chair that nobody was using here. I hate it almost as much, if not as much as the cheap one. The cushions are very firm, when I tilt it back it has little travel (yes, I turned the stop back) and feels no different from sitting upright, the bottom cushion does not slide out when I lean back (though since it hardly lets me lean back, I suppose they shouldn't bother adding this).

Any suggestions for chairs that will be comfortable, will let me lean back and will last a long time? I have a fabric chair from OD at home that is better than either of these, but I need another chair and I want better still. I normally sit straight in the chair, except that I lean back, but sometimes I do sit in odd manners, sort of sideways like leaning down against one of the armrests, or having the side of my body towards the back of the chair. I think I do these things BECAUSE these chairs are uncomfortable to me, but I don't know if I would still do them in an otherwise comfortable chair.
 
Well, under $1000. Certainly not $1600. The lower the better. I am willing to consider things on the same level as the Leap. The Aeron, I am told, is not good if you sit in strange positions like I do, and the closest dealers their site lists for me are in Boston which is an hour from me and a pain to drive into. Not going to there to try them.

also, that new HM chair is not available yet....
 
i sit extremely unorthodox ways, most of the time i guess it would resemble yoga sitting poses with a slight inclination forward. ( BTW I drive everyone insane with the way sit, but it's one of the few ways i feel comfortable) So I am guessing these high end chairs would be wasted on me.
 
Just a note that I am looking for a new chair for my house, not work. So it should be comfortable but it should not be an office chair in the sense that office chairs are supposed to make you work work work and not let you relax.

I need a better chair at work more than home, but I am not willing to buy one for work.

I may check it out but my experience with that level of chair (which is in the same price range as what I have at home now and pretty much all the chairs that preceeded it) is that they do not hold up very well. Thanks though.

The chair is rated for 3-5 hours of daily use, but if my current OD chair is any indication, they seem to be only good for 2-3 hours a day. My thighs end up hurting in most of these cheaper chairs.

What about the $500-ish Ergohuman chair?

For under $1000, you can get a Herman Miller Aeron chair. They're considered among the best out there.
 
It looks like you are looking for a REALLY comfortable chair that leans back a a lot and will last? There's one, a bit pricey, but beyond comfortable (its unlike the leap or other similarly priced chairs that have a firm seat, and really are meant for working ergonomically) is the Nightingale CXO chair.

The seat is really awesome, I mean, I cannot stress enough the comfort of it. Its at least 8" thick, and when you sit in it, you sink in. And its a very good company and the chair has a lifetime warranty...We were in a meeting with it as the conference chair, and I could've taken a nap no problem.
The back is mesh, but its firm and soft at the same time, and is comfortable too - putting these both together makes this a freakin amazingly comfortable chair.

That CXO chair is at the front of my list, I think. How far will it let you lean back? The Ergohuman looks decent, too, and I ask the same question of it.
 
+1 for Aeron. My work only use those(thousands) and I can tell you this much. I've worked other places before and my butt, thigh, back etc were hurting bad especially my back. Ever since I started work at place I'm at now, all of that are gone. No more pain. I wish I can have one at home but I don't have money to get it and don't have time to seat for hours at home. It fits your price range so you should definitely consider it.:D
 
Herman Miller Aeron chair. Seriously, almost nothing compares.
 
Wow, didn't realize it was going to get that much support. Would be nice if I didn't have to go to Boston to try one though....
 
I can't seem to find an exact link to it, but this one is similar, http://www.staples.com/office/suppl...Accents_218360_Business_Supplies_10051_SEARCH . I grabbed it from Costco for $249. Its by Lane, who makes alot of furniture and recliners and stuff. Plus from costco it has the lifetime warranty.. If it breaks or something, you can bring it back and they give you the amount you paid to get another. Great chair, I've suggested it to my aunt and uncle who both bought one too, and they're happy with it also

Thing sure was a pain in the ass to put together though...
 
It's not that I need to recline a TON but this stupid Leap chair lets me recline like 5* which is ridiculous. Leaning back in it still feels like I am sitting up straight.
