Another BF3 Beta whine session...

I didn't think DICE's map design could get any worse than MOH, but I was wrong.

"Yes, let's set up a map that is made up of a bunch of extremely narrow and very long tunnels, where one team starts at one end and must stop the other team from getting to their end! Accompany this with the fact that this game has prone and bipods and two-shot semi-auto sniper rifle kills, and thet fact that every camper scrub CODpiece in the world will be playing this game for at least one week, we have a recipe for the best game design ever!"

Fucking retarded. The Conquest maps better be a hell of a lot better. That Metro map is just one great big long corridor full of bitches.

I rather like the map. It's one long play session full of three different kinds of map. Makes for a very dynamic experience. In a standard class based shooter, I usually pick a class near teh beginning of a round, and only switch if I have a retarded team, or the opposing team is very good and needs to be countered in a particular way.
Here, I find myself, choosing different classes based on the section of the map. The open initial area, I usually go sniper, the subway usually support or assault, and the city at the end I go support. It's like three rounds with no loading in between. It's also pretty balanced, which for such a complex map, is hard.

Here's my issue with this beta: I don't know why they released it. I have read rumors that it was really meant as a stress test for the netcode and server system. if that's the case, then fair enough. I've participated in such tests before, and i don't expect much from the game in that case.

But here, they are using it as a marketing tool. They are saying, "buy my product because of BETA." Given the issues I have had, and the gameplay I have experienced, I think they may have convinced me NOT to buy the game. Nothing, alone, is much of a deal breaker, but nothing sets this apart from other shooters to make me say it is worth $60. And if the industry trend continues, I don't have very high hopes for a lengthy, interesting SP. I would LOVE to be wrong, but this is not a day one purchase for me.

Except of the 40-or-so rounds I've played on that map, the game has only ever reached the last stage (the city) once. I would bet that there is a huge percentage of games that are not getting any further than part 2 or 3. If that doesn't send a message to DICE that the map is fucked, then nothing will.

LOL I didn't even know there was a 3rd part of this map. wow just wow.

Your teams must suck ass then.....i hit the city part about 50% of the time.....i agree all the choke points suck ass, but its not un-winable if you know how to move

It happens when I'm on the defending team as well...the attacking side just doesn't break through.

People making excuses for the map doesn't make its design any better. MOH got smashed by the majority because of stupid one-long-corridor maps like OpM.

Yea, about half of my matches do too. Seems to depend on whether there is any kind of organization, or if it's a lot of idiots.

This. The city part gets pretty nasty at the end too for both sides. Having said that I am looking forward to some big open levels.

Yeah because key mapping is clearly something that doesn't get polished til the full version is out. LOL

Dice has a really bad reputation for keybinding problems. Both BF2 and BF2142 had some serious issues with key binding.

I can't remember what games had each of these specific problems but I've run in to:
  • Not being able to bind specific controls to specific peripherals (mouse/joystick)
  • Key bindings only partially restored/saved on power up
  • Ability becomes unusable even after set to 'default' setup
  • Key bindings resetting at map change
  • Ability is bindable, but does not function on certain peripherals

Wait......forward to mouse 2?

wtf?

Yup...M2=forward....M1=shoot...F= backwards...S=strafe left...D=strafe right...A=zoom...W/E lean left/right...plus a few other things centered around the ASDF keys. I have 7 functions on the mouse. And I invert mouse, like an airplane control.

It's called choice :D

Well, I hope the release product is workable in this respect. If they can't provide simple in game custom binds for standard FPS controls...I won't be buying it. No harm done, it's my choice.

Couldn't imagine how you move and shoot with that kind of key binding lol. :D

that is because they just renamed BC3 to BF3.....And yea, conquest better be where it is at...

Love games where a regular rifle is a better sniper rifle than the actual ones, love it!

wow  what are you using for jump .. print scrn?

I usually use a game pad like the N52 or Saitek Cyborg for keys and movement so I don't spend too much time changing the game key/mouse binds but I don't see why they would not let anyone map them however they wanted - if for no other fact that it will make people happy and set up the controls in whatever weird way they like. It just seems like the smart way to go with no real downside.

I get a little annoyed when I have to use the Logitech software to make binds that the game won't allow. It is not a deal-breaker but I hate forgetting and having to minimize and load a profile.

I've reached the other side of the metro about... half the time. Mostly when I'm on attacker's side with friends :D

Are people complaining that they cannot change the key binding in BF3 or am i missing something here? Once you are IN GAME (after you deploy) you hit escape and the menu for adjusting the controls comes up (along with video, audio, etc) Hitting the escape key from the lobby does not let you access this menu. Hitting the escape key after a game is over also is useles, you have to be IN GAME.

Yup, in game, as in getting my ass shot off while I try to make a bind...no worky, cannot change ANYTHING on the mouse.
