Build So Far
core i7 930 - Already Purchased
Antec 300 - Already Purchased
Monitor, Speakers, Keyboard, Mouse

What i might get...
GeForce GTX 275 OC 896MB GDDR3 PCIe 2.0 Graphics Card $230
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OEM $110
ASUS P6X58D-E & G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 1333 CL 7 $400
CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W $100

SSD - i assume ill be replacing the ssd in january after the market matures to sata6 and cost per GB comes down, so im just looking for an acceptable >40GB usable with trim to tide me over

Any particular reason why you want Nvidia considering the piss poor price to performance ratio they have now?

The 750TX would barely be enough for GTX 275 SLI considering their high power usage. You're looking at about 80W to spare on the +12V rail with a Core i7 930 at stock, 1 HDD, and two GTX 275 with the 750TX. So basically limited to no overclocking. In addition, the Antec TP-750 would be a better choice for just $10 more for better quality and slightly more power (62A on the +12V rail VS 60A for the 750TX). Still close but not as close.

If you don't want to stress either the Antec or the Corsair 750W PSUs, I'd recommend bumping up to the Corsair 950TX:
$150 - Corsair 950TX 950W PSU

In addition, the Antec 300 might not have enough room or cooling for GTX 275 SLI. So I'd recommend a larger case. Something like the Coolermaster RC-690 case:
$60 - Cooler Master RC-690-KKN1-GP ATX Case

I highly recommend this SSD:
$115 - Intel SSDSA2MP040G2R5 2.5" 40GB SSD

I agree with Danny. Though, I'd bump the SSD up to the X25-Mainstream instead of the Value. The Value is about half the speed of the mainstream.

$225 - Intel X25-M SSDSA2MH080G2R5 2.5" 80GB SATA II MLC Internal SSD

If you're near a Microcenter, they may still have it for $200. Also, check eWiz, since they sometimes have coupons on it as well.

Oh, and I'd definitely go with an ATI card instead of any GT200. Go HD5000 or GT400.

eh, the 275 gtx was sort of an impulse buy, i looked at an acceptable performance for me and it seemed to be at about $210 with a single 260 gtx, and then i was like, eh only $20 more for what seems like %20 more performance. seems the 260gtx i was pricing was a bit high. i definitely dont want loud, hot, and power hungry system.

i prefer nvidia for their extra software, physx, cuda. the ccc tends to piss me off, what would be a comparable ati card to this?
GTX 260 OC $180

i pretty certain ill get that ssd, im hoping windows 7 + 25GB of apps/games will fit on it.

The closest ATI equivalent would be just about any HD 5770 card:
$160 - XFX HD-577X-ZNFC Radeon HD 5770 1GB PCI-E Video Card

As for a close ATI equivalent to the GTX 275, the HD 5830 fits the bill:
$230 - XFX HD-583X-ZNFV Radeon HD 5830 1GB PCI-E Video Card

i dont know which of these would be the best. do any support some kind of audio add in to an hdmi port? i used to have a sapphire that ran perfect after i tore the fan off.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...5008&Description=5830 radeon&name=$200 - $300

will this 750 true power handle cf 5830?
Antec TruePower New TP-750 Blue 750W

Yeah the TP-750 would be enough for HD 5830 CF. The HD 5xxx series cards all support bitstreamed audio via HDMI.

I'd go for the XFX version since XFX has lifetime warranty and excellent customer support.

What Danny has said is all good, except the part about the antec 300.. I Wouldn't hesitate to put a pair of whatever hot card you want as long as it fits physically. The Antec 300 is IMHO one of the best ventilated cases short of going open air I Have ever seen that does not run at about 50db before the components. Especially if you add 3x 120's for intake to the 3 open fan spots (2 on the front & 1 on the side).

But I think that the 5830's are a much much better choice then the 275's. & XFX is the way to go.

the 5830 should physically fit in the antec 300, as the 5850 fits in it - http://www.overclock.net/ati/621228-solved-5870-antec-300-going-5850-a-2.html
my only curiousity is about the pci-e 6pin x2 being at the "front?" of the card rather than the "side?"

Already Purchased.
Core i7 930
Antec 300

Plan to Purchase...
ASUS P6X58D-E & G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 1333 CL 7 $400

XFX HD-583X-ZNFV Radeon HD 5830 $240

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OEM $110

Antec TruePower New TP-750 Blue 750W $110

Intel X25-V SSD $115

That combo is a little pricey considering that you can get 1600-speed memory for less than that particular 1333-speed memory. Also, that particular Asus board, though less expensive than many other boards with similar features, still isn't as inexpensive as a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R motherboard. Even after accounting for the combo discount, you'd still be paying $20 more than the combination Danny has recommended in other threads (and what I have described in this post).

OK So there is about 10 combo's that are better then that for the same motherboard getting you 1600 speed memory from g.skill, corsair & ocz all 3 that are within 10 bucks either way of that 1333 combo? Why did you choose that one?

I Would go with one of these

Any of them would be better do to the faster ram. Also the 1st one is the ripjaw series & the colors would match the asus completely of you care what it looks like.

& as for a cooler.. Corsair h50 is the big kid on the block right now.

While CL7 may be "faster" than CL9 or even CL10 in synthetic benchmarks, the difference in REAL WORLD performance is next to nothing.

+1.. It gains you pretty much nothing. & You should have more room to OC with the 1600

decided that it was totally worth buying a 5850 for only $30 more (@$270) and ~35 in bing cashback (@235)

same noise, power and heat generated, despite the oem 3 month warranty.

and fuck, the power supply increased $20 in price since yesterday.

and woohoo the motherboard dropped $20 in price since yesterday.

At $130, I cannot recommend the Antec Truepower New 750. Go back to the $110 Corsair 750TX or if you want to go overkill, go for the Corsair 950TX for $150. See why I can't recommend the Antec Truepower New 750W now?

Oh and that mobo is OOS now.

any other thoughts? should i consider an aftermarket cpu cooler?

You'll want an aftermarket cooler if you plan to overclock at all (which you should). The two coolers often recommended around here for the 930 are the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus and the Cogage TRUE Spirit.
