AMD Trillian?

someone mentioned that Trillian is the card that supports 6 displays. might be right. not too sure.
 
I can't stand the way Fuad writes. I call it TextPuke.

Although it does make sense for AMD to ship their 6head, 2gb, higher clocked cards in response to Fermi.
 
6x displayport makes me sadface

but if this turns into the new 5890... might be interesting.

Heard a rumour that March 11th is release date for this, should be an intresting card. Wonder how much more the 2gb ram will help high rez gaming ?
 
Trillian seems such a strange name for a card that is a refresh for Cypress...where did the tree theme go?

probably not a huge amount, it seems the limitations at high rez aren't memory limited but actual performance limited, ie no stuttering just a drop in frame rates.

Well, the name of that program was lifted from the HHGttG character, so it's not like they can claim exclusive rights to the name or anything.

It'll help if your trying to run Eyefinity type resolutions with several xAA on but wouldn't help sooo much for single monitor users and probably would be a waste of money at this point in time. The higher your level of AA, the more memory you need to perform it without significant performance hits. When you go over your memory buffer, you'll notice it pretty quick with a fairly sharp drop in fps. Right now with Eyefinity, I think most people at 1920x1200x3 monitors are keeping their AA settings between 0-2xAA.

With 2GB, I think you could probably do 4xAA to 8xAA without getting a severe frame rate drop due to running out of memory. Rather, I think you'd get the more gradual drop in fps that comes from applying higher levels of AA.

Although, that's all speculation and my 'guesstimation'. We won't know for sure until the card is released and we see some benchmarks at extreme IQ settings.

I think the idea of 6-display ports skills peoples interest in this card. Really, people are having issues/concerns regarding needing to buy 1 Active Adaptor that's powered and getting it to work without flickering. Imagine that concern x6 or x3 :D. If ATI came out and said that there would be a 1 display port + 2 dvi/1hdmi or even '3 hdmi' version of the 5890 I think interest among the community would be peak significantly.

Partially, I believe the community has steadily gotten less thrilled about 57xx/58xx releases as most of us are enthusiasts are more interested in the 58xx series releases and they've been out for so long its kind of old news; the 5870 has been out for 5 months now. The 57xx, 56xx and 54xx releases are interesting to read about in that we might want to buy one for our gf/family member/friend's birthday but its not as interesting as its probably not what we'll be putting into our systems.

Its just that there isnt too much info on 5890s yet. And besides I am very much looking forward to the battle of value between the two cards.

lol i know.. but i mean come on trillian? couldnt think of a more original name that wasnt already used? at least the name bulldozer has some meaning behind it besides just a code name..
 
regardless of how many displays you have, you would have to get two of these to drive anything more than two monitors. three monitors and a demanding game will still be too much for this card. I can see someone buying this card if they are working in a business enviorment where you would need six screens. I don't think gamers would waste their money on this card, unless ofcourse you got the cash, and you just wanna have it to say you have it, than props to you, and you can buy me one too. LOL
 
I thought there was a difference between the 5890(a higher clocked 5870 to sort of compete with fermi) and the 5870 eyefinity edition(more ram and display ports). It sounds like everyone in the thread is talking about them as if they are one in the same. Are they?

5890(if thats what they end up calling it) will be a refresh of the 5870.. better chip.. better clocks.. and probably more shader processors with more ram as well.. so no they arent 1 in the same.. the 5870 2GB is just a little late to the show is all.. though im sure a lot of that had to do with the fermi being so late.. no sense in ATI rushing it out so quickly at this point.. since display manufactures now have to catch up with the technology..

ATI may decide to release the beast to compete against Fermi.

Even though I faithfully buy all their stuff, Cerulean Studios doesn't have enough money to throw harsh language at AMD, let alone lawyers.

I never heard that rumour but the 5870s do have a lot of overclocking headroom if you bump the voltage, if they're binning these chips correctly then they could easily produce a line of cards based on the 5870 spec but basically overclocked, that's if they havn't used all them GPUs on the 5970s :D

Trademarks dont work like that. Trillian is a software application, this is a hardware product. Different categories completely. They could try to sue but they'd fail.

Exactly. ATI took the best chips that could reach 1GHz and used them for the 5970 instead. Then they said the 5970 can reach 1GHz but the cooler once again kept this from happening. ATI also didn't want to exceed the PCI spec of 300W and increase cost with a better cooler. The Cypress chips from the beginning was to be clocked @ 1GHz, giving Fermi almost no advantage. ATI did thier homework!

i think its all going to come down to how well fermi's suppose to perform.. if the fermi tanks then we will get an overclocked 5870 as the 5890.. but if you read a lot of the articles where AMD has hinted toward the new card.. i highly doubt its just going to be an overclocked 5870.. i think they have a beast up their sleeve.. :p can anyone say 2000 shader processors? lol jk but that would be friggin nuts if they did that..
 
Saw this earlier today. 5870 w/6 Mini DisplayPort. I am curious about this, because I will be upgrading to Eyefinity with my tax return (hopefully any day now). Wondering if I should wait for the 6 display card so I can use my three new monitors with my current sitting over the top of them. Anyone heard anything about how much more these will cost?

based on prices now.. probably in the 400 dollar range..
