Yea lots of these rumors that are coming out are weird and contradictory. For some reason they also tend to make mistakes about specs of current cards too.

Gonna have to wait and see as usual.
 
I think I'm going to pick and choose which rumors I believe to be correct and thumb my nose at everyone else that believes the other rumors.

It is not some random bout of eletism. It would be beyond insane for a company to do a name change that will only lead to poor reviews and mass confusion.

The ATI 5x series was expensive due to TSMC yield failures keeping supply down and performance was down due to adapting (Same with fermi except they did far worse with the adaptions)

The 6x is different the yields are good now they can afford to have the 6770 to have a bigger die than the 5770. Therefore it is perfectly reasonable for the 6770 to be able to approach or beat the bigger contenders of the last generation.

Will it mean it will cost 175-190 or so as compared to the less than 150 of the 5770 yes.. but that is to be expected especially if the performance is right.

However what the "new" rumor says that not only has that 770 part gone low end (Meaning it will be defeated by the 5770 which will cause chaos in itself) But the big boys of the last generation will defeat the 6850 and 6870?

Even if it just gets close If performance cant be raised by atleast 15 percent the reviews will be harsh and people will run to Nvidia in droves. The 850 and 870 have been associated with the big boys for a large amount of time now and changing that is just asking for chaos to happen.

Do you remember the bad 5970 reviews? The ones that complained that they expected a 5870 X2 not what they got? That didn't matter because those who had the funds to get the 5970 wanted pure benchmarks and the review on the cooling not the commentary.

This will be completely different and if you think Nvidia would not pounce on that then I have a Gold Bridge on Mars complete with Warp Drive carts I want to sell you.
 
Here's what I'm gathering from the rumors. AMD's high end part (what would have been the 6870) won't be ready for the holiday season. So instead they "rebadge" their mid-range part as the 6870 so that it appears they have a brand new high end part for sale.

This matches several rumors so far. The rebadge rumor from tech report and the sites stating the 6870 will be about as fast as a 5850. So what would have been the 6870 will be released late this year early next year as the 6970.

All those rumors come from sites that have always been out of the loop.
Let me add to their bullshit theories with this. AMD's midrange GPUs perform so much better than expected that they are moving them up a notch in the naming scheme. The true high end GPUs perform even better and WILL be ready before December and are also moved up the naming scheme.

How many times must it be said that it is full of crap. Matter of fact that Tech report site says that it will be a 5770 part disguised as a 6770? Crap like that drives panicked people to their site but is complete and utter nonsence.
 
Yea it sounds an awful lot like FUD, I don't think AMD would be that stupid. Especially when they've been playing it smart for a while now.

Supposedly that screen shot that Lorien posted is real, the B3D guys sure seem to think so and they're the ones that spotted all the inconsistencies that the other fakes had.

Yeah but that could be 2-3 weeks away. We need to shoot the breeze about something until then. ;)

nV has been dead silent. So these funky rumors and horrible photochopped slides are all we got.
