I have been using two AMD 6970 cards for a while now. I've had a back and forth relationship with these cards (and more specifically, the drivers). Sometimes they seem like they want to cooperate with me; at other times, they do not.
My monitor is 1920x1200 native resolution, but when I play FPS games where the field of view is larger at 16:9 resolutions, I like to play at 1920x1080. However, this has proven impossible without stretching the picture. I used to play almost all games at 1920x1080 and had no problem getting black bars on the top and bottom of the monitor; however, this seems to be no longer possible. Whenever I select either "1920x1200" or "1920x1080" as my screen resolution in Windows, the option to maintain aspect ratio is "grayed out" in Catalyst's options. The option to select 1920x1080 as my resolution is not present in the Catalyst drivers themselves. Every other common 16:9 resolution is available in Catalyst, and I can change my aspect ratio when I select them.
I have had this problem for about half a year now, and it's really starting to irritate me; I imagine solving the problem might have something to do with getting 1920x1080 to appear as an option in Catalyst, but I'm really not sure at all about what to do at this point. I've read just about every thread on the Internet about this issue, but nobody has had my exact problem. Anybody know a solution?
