AMD stretching problem

I have been using two AMD 6970 cards for a while now. I've had a back and forth relationship with these cards (and more specifically, the drivers). Sometimes they seem like they want to cooperate with me; at other times, they do not.

My monitor is 1920x1200 native resolution, but when I play FPS games where the field of view is larger at 16:9 resolutions, I like to play at 1920x1080. However, this has proven impossible without stretching the picture. I used to play almost all games at 1920x1080 and had no problem getting black bars on the top and bottom of the monitor; however, this seems to be no longer possible. Whenever I select either "1920x1200" or "1920x1080" as my screen resolution in Windows, the option to maintain aspect ratio is "grayed out" in Catalyst's options. The option to select 1920x1080 as my resolution is not present in the Catalyst drivers themselves. Every other common 16:9 resolution is available in Catalyst, and I can change my aspect ratio when I select them.

I have had this problem for about half a year now, and it's really starting to irritate me; I imagine solving the problem might have something to do with getting 1920x1080 to appear as an option in Catalyst, but I'm really not sure at all about what to do at this point. I've read just about every thread on the Internet about this issue, but nobody has had my exact problem. Anybody know a solution?

you can probably play with the settings on your monitor OSD. and disable something like "scale to fit" whats the model of your monitor?

I've played with the settings; it's actually how I got the black bars originally. However, that was about 2 years ago; I don't know what setting it was that did that, and I've tried many times to get it to happen again. However, my monitor has no problem getting black bars in any resolution except 1920x1080, because it's most definitely a drivers problem over anything.

My monitor is this: http://www.amazon.com/24in-TFT-LCD-1920x1200-1000/dp/B000UD0GWY

You can try going into CCC to the My Digital Flat Panels tab. Under that tab, select the properties tab. You can the enable GPU scaling and select either `Maintain Aspect Ratio' or `Use centered timings'. Give that a try and see if that corrects your problem.

It's grayed on both 1920x1200 and 1920x1080. It's doable for me on any other resolution.

When you change the setting to the one you want, on the lower resolution, and switch back does it remain working? It'll remain unselectable but it should remain selected to the one you changed to.

This was the work around for this situation, I'm not sure if they may have done something to fix(or break) it.

It does for every resolution except 1920x1080.

This is the fix:
Change your desktop resolution to anything less than you native (I'd suggest 1080p)
Go to CCC and to "My Digital Flat-Panels"
Click Properties and enable GPU Scaling
Then Hit either "Maintain Aspect Ratio" or "Use Centered"

Maintain Aspect Ratio keep the aspect ratio of the image while maximizing the size without croping.
Use center will work in a 1:1 pixel mapping mode for no stretch, but no upscaling will happen.

Enjoy.

Like I said, it works on all resolutions but 1920x1080 and 1920x1200.
