AMD Polaris .. supply problems abound

Well I don't believe everything that I read. I just like posting it so that others can read it, discuss it, and disseminate it. Keeps things interesting to say the least. ;)

I would still find it very unlikely that the GTX 1080 or 1070 outsold the GTX 970. Maybe on launch day because the 970 didn't have the hype that the 1080 / 1070 had at launch. But over time? Heck no. Nvidia will sell tons more GTX 1060's in comparison to the amount of 1080 / 1070 combined.

So you're saying that AMD had no idea that the mainstream product they were selling at a mainstream price to capture mainstream marketshare wouldn't sell the fuck-ton of cards they needed to sell just to be successful at stated mission of capturing said mainstream marketshare? :banghead:

Well it's AMD, nobody really wants an AMD if they have the budget, and plus it kills your PCIe slots. So not too surprising that AMD is surprised that it's selling as well as it is.

/s kinda not really

lol . I have the budget and look very much forward to future AMD products as well as Nvidia products. Now which one is going to have a real VR solution other then what is available today. I would think Nvidia would be close.

REALLY? lol hate much? You seem to be still blowing this out of proportion. It is already a non issue with the driver update with no little to no performance hit. It's fine though from now on we will mostly see AIB cards I think reference cards will be far and in between once the AIBs start making non reference cards. There is no reason for them to produce reference or at the very least keep them in shorter supply than after market cards.

He never said anything about production. You might want to watch the saved stream again. As a mod on that channel, all I can say is you need to listen closer to what he says.

Just a reminder. The video is still private, and now we have multiple sources confirming that the card SHOULD go into production this weekend. I think while you were moderating that stream, you may have missed what he said. He clearly said it, and MANY others picked up on it.

Boost clocks revealed so far:

ASUS ROG Strix - 1330, claims 15% gain over reference in 3D Mark, 19% in games (at 4k)
XFX XXX BE - 1338, demonstrated 15% gain in 3D Mark
Sapphire Nitro - 1266 Quiet mode, 1306 Boost mode
Sapphire Nitro+ - 1266 Quiet mode, 1342 Boost mode

So, a mild OC plus removal of throttling is giving VERY decent performance increases, unofficially. Can't wait to see official benchmarks.

Got 3 notifications about reference RX 480 being available from Best Buy and newegg. I had it set up few days ago before I bought the gtx 1060 for 249.99. Lol I checked with in 5-10 minutes and they were all sold out already lol. I wasn't gonna buy it but damn that was quick.

I would think that demand is certainly outstripping supply. Will be interesting to see how long this takes for the 1060. I would think demand will also be high considering all the AIB options available now.

Lisa Su said that they are ramping up more 14nm FinFet production during the earnings call. :)
