AMD OverDrive fan control question

i run a R9 280x single card and was wondering if i set the fan control to say 45% manual speed instead of the automatic 20% starting speed, will the manual setting still ramp up the fan speed if needed by the card ?
 
make a custom fan curve with MSI afterburner and you will be even better as you can select how you much you want ramp up the fan.. =)..
 
no if you force a % then it will not ramp up/down and I know at least with my 7870 if I force custom fan speeds it screws with voltage. It will allow clock to go up/down but also keeps voltage at a high amount.

Afterburner as Araxie mentioned or Sapphire TriXX would also work can set custom ramp points, specific % turn up/down as you see fit so you can better control the noise, wear on the fan bearings, and dust recovery :p

You can manually identify that exe as a 3d process. The card will do its thing whenever that process is running.
 
yeh that would be a wonky bug. I do know some games cause the one in Trixx to jib out sometimes but I have not ever had that issue with Afterburner hits x temp hits x fan, provided the driver doesn't reset cause that usually means you have to re-enable the specific profile for it to kick in again, maybe that's the issue?

I just find a happy noise to cooling myself set once per overclock setting (if you do this) set and forget, enable profile and if you took the time to see it set right you know it will cool well and you get used to the noise.

be great once they are all using fans that can go 1-2% ramping at a time instead of needing to burst up and down all the time which wears the fans out very fast.
 
MSI Afterburner and the AMD Evolved app conflict sometimes and cause my games to crash.

Msi afterburner ideally uses a program called riva tuner statistics server to monitor 3d applications such as bf4 64bit, shown here.

When using this afterburner (with this new server information), you can set custom 2d and 3d clock modes and fan curves. Then afterburner changes everything for you automatically. I use it to keep my system underclocked and undervolted and silent when not gaming. And then powerful and overclocked when gaming. Effectively overriding the cards normal states.

Sorry this isn't related to the OP but my friend is also having a weird issue regarding his r9-280 fan. No matter what we do in Afterburner, the fan speed does not stay static! We set the fan to 70%, it goes down to 18% in a few minutes.

We uninstalled the Asus suite thinking that was causing an issue, but apparently not. But you guys did mention BF4 64 bit and Mantle, and my friend does play Thief so is that messing with Afterburner or something? I don't buy AMD and I want to help my friend out, but I never had this happen to me. When I set the fan speed it actually stayed until I changed it, this 280 does what it wants.
