AMD has smaller cache n lesser frequency than intel counterparts.does it have anything to do with cpu working speed??
I'm a multitasker---gaming,web designing,video editing etc.Pliz suggest a suitable processor and motherboard.(budget limited to approx$250).

to keep things simple
get the Core 2 Duo E6400

fits your budget and needs

larger level2 cache helps tremendously :D ;)

Haha, well when you see a guy with AMD RULES as a name, and he recommends intel, you damn straight better get a duo 2!

lol, that is funny
yeah i would go with a conroe

um , not for a $250 budget,

any motherboard with decent overclocking options for conroe is $210+
e6400 ~$220 +still needs ram

his best bet is to get opteron 165 socket 939 denmark and the dfi lanparty ultra-d or similar,
that will come out to about ~$260 ,+ still needs ram, some good overclocking ram and overclock it , the denmark opterons hit up to 3ghz stable, this will yeld best performance for the money ,

building a conroe system for overclocking will cost well over $250

he didnt say he needed OC'ing....

a conroe with a cheap MB would be better than anything AMD has in the 250 dollar price range...

ohh yeah , why don't you post a possible combo and a total price of it ,

and where would he see a definite performance difference compared to overclocked opteron @ say 2.6-2.8?

Check the hot deals forum, has a conroe plus a motherboard for under $200, well under actually :)

Not quite.

975X boards may be that expensive, but there are decent overclocking P965 boards for under $150. Gigabyte S3/DS3 and Asus P5B are two of the more popular cheaper overclocking boards. Foxconn and MSI have some cheap P965 boards that provide decent overclocking as well, but I'm not too familiar with them.

That said, I'm not sure if the OP's budget of $250 is for the CPU, CPU + mobo, or CPU + mobo + RAM.

I think unless you are on a really tight, tight budget.,
You should should go with something like this...

INTEL E6400 Core 2 Duo = $217

G.SKILL 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 = $129

ECS NF 570 SLIT-A (V5.1) (LGA 775) NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MB = $99

Total = $450 incluing the ram
Total =$315 without the ram

Another option would be switch up the G-Skill's with some
Corsair...

CORSAIR XMS2 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2

Or go with the cheaper core2Duo mentioned above.
Hey, just offering an opinion.

Intel is pretty much better in everything.

The only thing AMD has over Intel is scalablity in terms of platform.

Hypertransport > FSB

well my current status on the pc im building is:

pc-7b
with 250mm side fan
4x 120mm fan
750 watt toughpower psu
amd x2 4800

Did you purchase this yet ?

I'll make things ultra simple for you.

Both camps have excellent processors, and it would be pretty hard to go wrong with either.

Unless you spend most of your time running benchmarks, you will not really notice a difference between either platform. Yes, C2D is faster. Yes, if you have a really high end system with CF or SLI, you might even notice a difference... if you have a 30 inch monitor or some such nonsense. But then, if you have something like that, money is no object to you anyway, so you wouldn't be asking.

So, short answer? Buy what you can afford. That means, if you're on a budget, get an AMD system. If you've got a little more money to burn, get a C2D. The only real difference in price is in the cost of the motherboards. Intel will probably run you an extra $150 over AMD. However, the cheapest Intel processor is comparable to one of AMD's high end processors, at stock speeds... and they're all good overclockers.

The FSB of a conroe will give you bottle necks. Its not as quick as a AMD in loading games and stuff but over all conore is faster but not by much. Don't listen to the over hype. Just get a 70 buck biostar mobo, 70 bucks of 1gb DDR2, and a 130 buck X2 dual core. Save money and similar performance in the real world. If your seriously on a budget go this root. If you want to show off get a conroe. Other then that its not worth the extra 200 bucks a system like a conroe will cost you. You say $450 for a conroe system try $250 for super budget. Is $200 bucks worth 10% or 15% performance difference worth it to him? Let him be the judge of that not deluted fandoms in a war with one another. You didn't tell him he could get a system for half the price with similar performance.

I really wish someone would b7 all the fan girls. This thread is laughable.

Awesome Conroe setup in that pricerange? Not so much. e6300 and a not-so-great mobo, yes.

AMD that will beat even that combo? Not so much. Stop lying to yourselves. Both sides.

lol - I hope the price drop didn't hurt you too bad - or did you buy after the drop?

Back on thread. Buy whatever you can afford and makes you happy. All the medium range cpu's and up these days can get the job done for you very well. Price/performance is the key. Get the best bang for the buck.

On the ECS note, I have two systems now running ECS mobo's both work really well. ECS with intel 3.0HT and ECS with AMD 3800+X2 no problems with either, benchies are just as good as my old ASUS board. Considering half the price, ECS is awesome, Just wish they'd get rid of the purple/rainbow mess of a color scheme.

Well, here's what I did. I have an AMD gaming system that I love.
I needed a cheaper daily task machine. I already had a case,PSU,and other misc. stuff.

Core2Duo e6300,ASUS P5N-SLI,1GB value RAM,and a 7600GT video card. I think it was about $550. The e6300 is an excellent processor; crisp, fast and overclocked to e6400 speeds without a hitch.

good luck.

What the hell are you saying ?

Allow me to translate, I believe he said that the Intel and AMD !!!!!!s are both idiots and need to "keep it real" so to speak.
