AMD next gen GPU's

Not the most exciting news right? Couple of new bottom end 2GB gpus coming out? It will be just like last year....Nvidia will get at least a 2 month head start on every new card release (if not more)
 
I think AMD is going to be getting their low end and mid range out before nV, I think its going to happen like this, nV high end then mid range, than enthusiast, then low end (pretty much what they did this time around). AMD, is going to do high end, than mid range, low end, than enthusiast.
 
I think we are getting some misinformation from AMD. Not everything adds up. I'm more curious to see what happens next.
 
AMD needs to change their strategy.... They need to start competing again and do it like they mean it. Oh and get rid of your PR department, they stink...
 
Well from a PR/marketing point, since the Radeon Group has been formed, we haven't seen any slip ups from them that make them look like whinny brats.

I think getting their mid range and low end out before nV does is a good strategy to begin with those are lower margin parts, but high volume and they focus more on OEM and system builders, this is where the marketshare is. Also this focuses on notebooks where they have traditionally been strong in AIB's.
 
Nice, might want one for the HTPC, just to give it some gaming capabilities...
 
It'll be interesting to see how much binning/differentiation there will be within a single die on a 14/16 process. We could easily see low-yield $250 cards running the same silicon (with a bit of laser cutting) as high-yield $500 cards. It has precedence.

Polaris is 7 months ahead of schedule, but Nvidia will be releasing Maxwell rebrands.

nope neither of those are true, Polaris is on schedule, and no maxwell rebrands, and it looks like the first Pascal cards are going to be not just the high end (not enthusiasts) but also notebook variants too which seems to align with what AMD will be doing,

I don't think AMD is going to be doing this, Polaris 10 and 11 don't seem to be the same chip not to mention, there seems to be another chip which is going to be the bigger version for the high end. Having a chip span from 250 to 500 bucks is something that is rarely seen, and this is because its a waste of money on new nodes.

New nodes start off with a higher price per wafer and the cost benefit ratio is non existent when the process is new.
 
I agree that it's incredibly wasteful to be using heavily binned chips (fix your process!) to make up the midrange/enthusiast cards, but this has happened on prior nodes. It'll really come down to how bad the yields really are--as you say, rarely seen for obvious $$ reasons. We really hope it doesn't happen, red or green!
