AMD kills off "Gaming Evolved"

not really surprising it was crap! driver release notes have been stating problems with it for months now. they also don't write that shit either, it's raptor's turd, so I wouldn't really call it getting trounced by nv. on the nv side their GeForce experience software has had lots of issues too. both are, imo, pointless anyways. games auto-config themselves and there are better capture/stream programs. hell, xbox app on w10 does cap/streams.

So Raptr stopped updating it and AMD is no longer bundling it? TBH, all I really remember about it is that people complained it was installed (like GeForce Experience early on).

you can still get raptr and it is still being updated but the amd branded version is being turfed.

Raptr stopped being included three or four driver sets ago.

I think the real problem is how AMD is great at making stuff that gets shelved in time. Everytime I hear about them it's "not as good as NVidia" or other bad news. I miss the days when AMD were the cheap (albeit hot running) alternative to NVidia.

No they don't. In any case its a reasonably good one-click way for people that don't want to dive into manual individual settings to get within the ballpark of ideal settings.

Shadowplay is pretty damn good since its HW accelerated encoding (zero impact on gaming performance). And its free. And the third party stuff that supports HW accelerated is not. Xbox App on 10 = dogshit, as is 10.

The issue is that Nvidia will pimp a feature to death (physX, gameworks, GeforceExperience) regardless of how well it is recieved.

AMD does not have the funding to do this, and MOST of their 'features' are knee-jerk reactions to Nvidia's goings-on. The last original idea AMD had for its products was Eyefinity.

I enjoyed not having to unselect 'Gaming Evolved' during the last driver update I installed.

I'm not to bothered with this , in the end it is a feature which most people did not use. If it was something that changed a lot of things but it did not.

I never used that program so no loss to me. However, I also never used the Geforce Experience except to update drivers and that was it. However, unlike AMD's Crimson Control Panel, which has a lot of functionality, Nvidia's control panel is a barren wasteland so the Geforce Experience is needed.

I'm confused about what you are referring to here?

Geforce Experience does not have any direct control over driver settings (some game profiles will automatically adjust certain things like DSR, driver level AA, and pre-rendered frames). The control panel for both AMD and Nvidia does however with some feature differences between them and that Nvidia has never exposed OCing.

Example comparision -

Geforce Experience really only has the following functions -

LED Control (as far as I know not accessible elsewhere)
Leveraging built in hardware for game streaming (as far as I know not directly accessible elsewhere. Although there are alternatives, such as Steam in home)
Leveraging built in hardware for game video/audio capture (3rd party alternatives available. Possibly not as well "optimized" or as low level access?)
Automatic Game Settings (you can do this yourself without 3rd party tools)
Driver updates (you can do this yourself without 3rd party tools)

Not having OCing in the Nvidia Control panel so you can profile each game as needed is something I do miss. As for raptr - good riddance.
